And how is sharing all his posts and texts in a public "idiotic, narcissistic, annoying posts" thread working out?

The other part of this, is that he is likely surrounded by fairly uneducated people. From what I've read of the comments from his Facebook friends, they simply think he is being a bit of a nerd. I.e. They assume they don't understand what he's saying because it is science, not because he is bat**** crazy.
If all his family think he's posting legitimate science that is over their heads, then he isn't crazy, he just has really really bad genes.

Finally, in conversation last night, he confirmed that a year ago he was incredibly depressed, curled up in a ball in bed crying depressed. The combination of the depression and his current mood is pretty clear cut for anyone who has experience with manic depression, which I do, having seen it in 3 close family members.
Oh he's depressive. I'm sure he'll feel better when he Google's one of his crazy theories and finds your posts here. Also, a sort of weird young dude who was depressed a year ago and cried a lot? That sounds very peculiar indeed for a misfit type.

By the way, did you tell his family that last little bit, or is that reserved for 2+2 threads only? Maybe they'll just think that's too sciency.

Yeah, you're a self righteous douchebag. There's no reason you can't empathise and find funny at the same time, but I'm guessing you struggle with both.

If you don't like the thread, feel free to leave.

What is there to empathise with? He's an attention whoring nutjob. You're actually contributing to the problem by giving him what he wants.

I'm glad that the younger generation are becoming more selfish and less willing to lend a hand. Most people don't deserve help, especially those putting on an act.

Well, since you can't really search for text that's in images, he won't find this thread by googling his words. So don't worry about that.

OP posting all this here does not interfere with him trying to get this guy help, so you can't use this thread as evidence that he isn't trying.

The fact that this has gone unnoticed to his friends/family because they think he's being nerdy and scientific adds so much more depth to this hilarity, thank you for observing that.

Couldn't be that they realize his foolishness is rather harmless and are humoring him, and believe he's probably not a real threat to break into Los Alamos and demand to show them his cold fusion reactor.

Let him know I tried Lapis Lazuli and that didn't work (at the cost of one microwave) so he can cross that one off his list and won't waste his time.

Just agree with him OP, he'll soon get tired of his own attention seeking when you aren't offering him help.

True story, I once had a friend that liked to moan and bitch about his life every day on Facebook. He'd always text me saying he's depressed which I found quite funny, since like, why would I care?

Well anyway, one day he decided to send me a longwinded text about how he can't cope anymore and that he's going to kill himself. I thought it would be a laugh to post the message on Facebook and he calls me 10 minutes later fuming that I had "betrayed his trust" and I just laughed at him, told him that he was being a little girl and he shouldn't have sent me the text.

The point of the story is that once he realized he wasn't going to get the reaction he wanted, he stopped being so open with his weird behavior.

Either berate him, agree with him or just ignore him. You should not offer this freak any help.

I don't think you understand mental illness very well. Yet you talk so confidently.

He's not mentally ill. He's your typical conspiritard, attention-seeking fantasist. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Just agree with him, he'll soon get tired of his trolling when you stop replying.

Once he realizes he isn't getting the reaction he wants, he'll stop trolling.

To be fair to OPs "distant acquaintance", he makes about the same (slightly more, I would argue) sense as creationists do.

Crazy as this is, I actually think he's coming down a bit. This at least has some kind of internal consistency, and is only one nuts idea instead of 18.

I expect crash into depression in about 10 days.
