Bluegrassplayer nailed it.

I still think OP was likely correct in his ordering/paying but agree some more clarification would be good.

I don't see what the issue is with listing out the items ordered and the % consumption for him vs date/kid.

Why would you want to go on a date with that trash?

If op interacted with her on the date like he's interacting with us here, no wonder she's bitter at having to pay anything for that experience.

I'm pretty sure that's a mugshot of some kind of famous murderer. If it was her, don't antagonize her further, lol.

Correct. I think posting her pic for my and OOT's amusement would be crossing the line.

I still feel like texting here that this could all be settled with a nice blowjob is the best way to go here. I wouldn't go A 2 M without first getting her to give up the M.
Ok, you have got the gig - nominate the exact content of the text and I will send it.

OP, I'm having some problems with your little tale. I assume the reason for my doubting your veracity is because your story simply can't be true. (Plus, poker players are more logical than you seem to be and could easily focus on the details of the money/food, removing the many questions we now have.)

I'm guessing that you sat down at the table, sized up the inherent weaknesses in your table mates and began to scarf down every edible item in sight, while the lady and her poor child looked on in horror. Then, having ravaged the food, you began arguing over every penny on the bill before walking out in mock disgust, leaving the shocked woman and kid in tears. Now, you want OOT's help to pile on the abuse even more. For shame...

In addition to my old school notion that guys should pick up the tab- especially on first dates/encounters- this thread has reinforced my antiquated bias that it's +EV to do so.

Benefits of not paying the bill:

1) Get some marginal and fleeting satisfaction that you didn't have to fully pay for a date with a "very weird dudess."

2) You likely wouldn't have made this thread; although, that would be the quintessential 'mixed blessing.'

Benefits of paying:

1) Your (admittedly slim) chance of a postprandial BJ are increased. Recognizing this in advance would have allowed you to reschedule the rendezvous when her child would not be in attendance. Dinner would also have been less expensive without the kid.

2) You would not have received those annoying texts. (Perhaps, however, you've derived some atypical pleasure from them, idk. For my part, I'd rather not hear from people I don't like.)

3) You did say that you enjoyed the child's company. Why not leave her with a positive impression of a man interacting with her mother? (Her momma has surely poisoned that well.)

4) And you never know what will come back to bite you. What if, just by happenstance, a future date happens to be friends with that lady? No date and no BJ is my guess.

I think $60 is pretty cheap date insurance.

Are you seriously not mentioning '60 $$ in your pocket' as a benefit of not paying ?

Leo,

With dating apps and websites it isn't unthinkable for people to have 2/3 dates a week. Buying for dinner everytime might make you quite the fedora-tipper, but also a broke fedora-wearer.

Grunching, but I always liked I will get the food and you get the drinks?

Spend the $60 on dinner. Consider the date insurance a free perk.

Don't go on dates you can't afford? Also, is 2/3 of a date otherwise called a threesome?

While I'd be thrilled if you agreed to do that at my table, you'd likely regret doing so. You'd be much better off letting me buy the wine and you buy the food.

Or better yet, I'll buy dinner and wine and you take care of the tip.

Op,

Itemize the receipt already!
How did beef, squid, and ice cream cost $80?

I'm starting to think you did eat all the food, racked up the bill, and scammed some poor crazy woman for dinner.

If you read the OP, you will see this: "We ordered (japanese) and she chose what seemed like a crapload of food for the 2 of them. I ordered 4 pieces of sushi, and tuna sashimi. She asked if we were sharing, and I said I am quite happy to each stick to our own...seemed less awkward etc "

I read the op and I'm still confused how her bill was $80. Why are you being so evasive to list out each item with cost and who ate what?

Mostly because I can't be f***ed, and also because I have absolutely no idea. I know what I ordered, she ordered about 5 dishes. At that stage I was not expecting to be audited by OOT, so failed to make notes or video - my bad. Date was meh, server said $120 and I handed over my card for half. (There I said it again, omg...I had a meal with two other people and I ONLY PAID HALF THE BILL!!!!!!)

You do know this is NZ right? $80 is a tank of gas, a nice tie, a parking fine - you can't buy a car or go on holiday to the Bahamas with it

Because the story is much less entertaining when he breaks it down and realizes he prob ate at least $60-70 worth.
