Watched the first half before work this morning and while a few of his jokes seemed outdated it wasn't that terrible. His Michael Jackson stories were the high point. Wesley Snipes not paying taxes because Blade doesn't pay taxes got a good laugh too.

Someone recorded Stanhope's 2015 set and upped it to youtube. I'm reliving it now and it's almost better the second time.

Who has seen Norm Macdonald live and should I go see him even if it means cancelling other plans?

Its been on Netflix for awhile. I think its his best work since "No Refunds" probably. I love all of his stuff, but this one is really amazing.

ah my bad, I missed this one on Netflix. I watched the first 10 minutes and recognized some of the bits from his toronto show so I thought it was the same set. Good stuff for sure.

Friends bachelor party been planned for months, just randomly found out Seinfeld going to be in town doing stand up for two of the four days we're there. Outside of the obvious other debauchery that will be going on, worth it?

Oh this is Vegas btw lmao

This was great by the way if you're a fan of Ari. Also the host was really good, Nick Mullen I think his name was.

Sucks that Shaffir moved back to NYC. Haven't seen him live and he moved back to NYC this or last year. So think east coast people have better chance of seeing him than us west coasters.

Nick Mullen was on an episode of Shaffir's Skeptic Tank. About his (Mullen's) experiences living in ****ty "apartments" and tenement housing in LA while pursuing his stand up career. Was my only exposure to him but he was really funny on it.

I saw him in January and he was incredible. I would cancel all plans but funerals and overseas travel.

I would suggest Vinnie Favorito, he is a great insult comic who recently relocated his show from the Flamingo to a place called the Tommy Wind Theater. Seinfeld would be great but I would imagine your group might like a little raunchy humor.

I can only assume that Vinnie owes you money, because there is virtually no other reason to suggest to a random party that they'd enjoy him more than Seinfeld.

I laughed harder at Vinnie's show than probably any show I have seen in the past 10 years

Seen Shaffir a few times live and been to one of his storyteller shows.

IMO he's a solid seasoned pro but isn't top tier. Definitely misses the mark on some bits but I've seen him kill live. His podcast is terrific. I thought he was a real dick for a good while before I began listening to his show.

Turns out the seat is 3rd row, dead centre. Was absolutely amazing.
He crushed SO hard, played a 2 hours set and it was all new/off the cuff stuff. He had the theatre just screaming. Absolutely amazing to see him live like that. I know RBK will be jealous of that story. Bill Burr is a ***** legend.
if Bill burr keeps it up and stays as consistent for the next5 years, he should go down as one of the GOATs imo.

hes just too good, controls a room, has great presence and is ****ing hilarious and its always new ****ing material. hes a ****ing genius

I love his podcast. He seems to be a really curious, genuine person from listening to his podcasts. He does admit that at times he's come across as the cliched depressed, I-hate-everything stand up but that medication for depression along with his growing popularity have turned his life around. He seems like someone who enjoys life and wants to learn and grow.

I think he's already there for working stand ups. Another special or 2 and he'll be right up there with the all timers. Patton was on his way, but his output has been less frequent and a lot more tame then his earlier stuff.

What's Patton's best standup iyo? I've tried to get into him, and by all accounts he should be right up my alley, but I just haven't ever heard any great bits by him. It feels like >50% of his joke just fly right by me so maybe he'll just never be my type.

I posted this way back on page 7, but here you go:

Are you wanting audio or video?

For video:

Start with "No Reason to Complain". This is kind of the end of my favorite era of his, and the only fully filmed hour long set of that time. He was a bit rawer, nerdier and with more BPM (bits per minute) and he was really working his ass off to build his audience.

Either of his latest 3 are great and much more professionally put together. The order is dependent on taste. Once those are done, then you can jump into the "HBO 30 minute special" which is just freaking wonderful. He's basically bombing (though it has a couple of my all-time favorite bits of his) and just does not give a flying **** about it.

For audio:

I much prefer albums to filmed specials these days, and with Patton, that is especially true. Werewolves and Lollipops is outstanding, his book on tape is great, and then there is 222. 222 is the unedited version of his first album (Feelin' Kinda Patton, also great) and it about 2 hours long. It's the quintessential PO work, since it's his current set (at the time) a great crowd, and then an hour or so of his greatest hits done drunk as hell cause he's having so much fun. This was also around the time of the Comedians Of Comedy, which you should also check out, since that was the best thing to happen to standup since the big-comedy-boom of the 90's died out.

this is my favorite patton special

but he's also a bit polarizing/niche, so if youre not into him he might just not be your thing

I was watching Dave Chappelle's "For What It's Worth" concert... the bit about grape drink is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Last Comic Standing returns tonight.

Jesselnik is hosting, and Norm is a judge (along with the returning Roseanne and Keenan Ivory Wayans), both changes are intriguing to say the least.

I know a handful of comics who are going to be on it, and the word on the street is that Norm was brutally harsh on people, which could be very entertaining.

Sadly it is still more reality show than stand up comedy show, so I expect I'll get frustrated and quit watching very quickly.

I'm so excited to see Norm's return to TV! Hopefully he becomes a breakout star and can parlay this into some kind of talk show. I'm rooting for Sam Morril this season.

is there a list of the contestants anywhere? cant seem to find one anywhere. i know a bunch of people who were in the running, but don't know who actually made it to the show.

it's just such an awful format for comedy, and i dont know anyone in comedy who doesnt agree, but the exposure is an unfortunate necessity of the world
