I saw Bill Burr in Philly last night. It wasn't his best work (especially considering I saw him last summer and thought he was great).

It was my first "no cellphone" event. Outside of wanting to take a few pics I really didn't care, but they put your phone in a pouch on the way in. Considering almost everyone has tickets on their phone they went up the line and wrote your seat number on a post-it. Our entrance ran out of pouches, so we had to wait 10+ minutes until they got more. It was a real **** show.

ten minutes is a small price to pay to defeat cancel culture

Well, it was 10-15 just to get more pouches. Obviously, the phone issue caused more delays than just that. I guess I shouldn't complain as the line for his show last year in Vegas was close to an hour wait and pushed his 10:30 show to start just before midnight... and that only involved a metal detector.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised when people in the audience are offended, but I am. Have you never heard a Bill Burr joke before?

Read about Burr's recent show here in Dallas. He started bagging on The Cowboys and said "We all know what the issue is with your team. You are all gonna have to wait that one out"

Great line

Probably late to the party but heard Rogan and Sam Morril talking about Shane Gillis, so I checked out his set from Austin on youtube. Had never seen any of his stuff. Thought it was hilarious. His bit on Trump was my favorite.

He's in that group I think is a hilarious guest/podcaster but his standup is meh.

I don't know why that is.

I went to Kevin Hart in August. It was no cellphone. You could go to certain areas for them to unlock it. It was kinda cool not having my phone during the show, but i don't wear a watch, so i really hated not knowing the time.

I hated that I was meeting a friend there and I had no clue if he was able to get in or not, so i had to keep leaving to use my phone. And I saw they were running 45m behind(the show)

I also saw Burr with those bags. Didn't care about not having my phone. Only thing I cared about was it made the line to get in sooooo long. At least an extra 30 mins. Friends wife put her pouch under the seat. As did the random girl next to her. Naturally the bags got kicked around and they didn't know whose pouch was whose. Had to exit together at the end to make sure.

My understanding is the bags aren't about cancel culture, its about not wanting new material recorded.

They put smart watches in the pouch as well. I simply refused to give up my Garmin and was allowed to keep it. Multiple people asked me what time it was. It was also in the Wells Fargo Center... please put the time on one of the screens.

I had no intention of using my phone during the show and agree it would be nice if no one else did, but snapping a pic beforehand would have been nice. Luckily we weren't meeting people as I'd probably be annoyed about that as well.

I put the pouch in my pocket and never thought about mixing up pouches, but that would suck.

I've been to multiple Jim Jefferies shows and he's made it clear that he doesn't want to be recorded and posted online because of new material or because people don't pay to go to a show. I think Burr has mentioned taking portions of a joke and it leading to cancel culture, so I assume it a bit of both.

It was somehow my first experience with it. I want to say it was because it was a big venue with multiple entrances and that they had enough, but didn't portion them out to each entrance correctly.

Also, it was my first trip to the Philly Live! casino and the free parking was nice.

They had us do that like 8 years ago when I saw David Copperfield in LV. I was hammered off them giant white Russian big gulps and kept yelling, "DAVID BLAINE, EVERYBODY!" after his tricks. Pretty fun show, though.

Kevin Hart, eh? Interesting choice.

And the system needs to be more efficient. Maybe open the doors earlier. Wife and I were at JFL in Montreal this year. We have John Mulaney at 9:45 and at midnight The Living Wake of Bob Odenkirk. We've seen a couple hundred of shows at JFL over the years and we know how to book the shows so you can see three in an evening. We easily should have made the midnight show.

Mulaney was in a 3000 seat theater with one entrance and the lineup was barely moving because of these Yonder bags. Most everyone gets to the front of the line and realize they won't be able to access their seat location once their phone is bagged. So now they have to look up their tickets, write down the seat number and then bag the phone. We didn't get through the doors until 10:30 and it was another 20 minutes before the opener hit the stage. Mulaney came on around 11:15.

Needless to say we were bummed that we had to miss Odenkirk and the Yondr system needs to be reviewed.

Louie CK's emails are always worth a read. This is from his most recent email, regarding his upcoming show at MSG.

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
This tour will end on January 28 at Madison Square Garden. We put tickets on sale and sold 10,000 on the first day. And it will definitely be sold out. But you can still get tickets to the show. The remaining seats are kind of up there in the upper tiers but I’m playing the show in the round, with the stage in the center, so every seat is closer to the stage than when I played it on the end. This show will be my last show for a while. I don’t know how long. But I will likely take a break after this. I am saying this so that more people will buy tickets, and I am likely to change my mind. So if I were you I just wouldn’t pay attention to this part of the email. It’s just bullshit. It’s me trying to entice you to buy the remaining nosebleed MSG tickets with the idea that you might be at my last show if you come. But honestly, considering that I am 55 and overweight, every show has the potential to be my last. And I really love stand-up comedy and I’ll probably never quit or even take a significant break. But please come to the show at MSG. It’s going to be great. And it’s going to be MY LAST SHOW!!!$!$!

Dave Attell on the latest Joe Rogan podcast. Dave is probably my all-time favorite comedian. Was surprised at how subdued and mellow he was, a lot different than his stage persona. Comes across as a really humble, genuinely nice guy.

I tried watching TJ Miller's new special on Youtube and shut it off after 5 mins.

Agreed. I'm going to be out of town, but bought some tickets for a friend for the AC show.

Hello person in the general vicinity of Atlantic City New Jersey, which is a strange, sad and storied place.

I’m writing to say that I’m coming to play the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall Theater in October 15th. You can get tickets to the show here now.

Things for you to know:

1. I’m not playing Philadelphia on this tour so this is your chance to see this particular show of comedy jokes.

2. This show is completely different than “Sorry” which was the last show I did in Philadelphia.

7. The show is at a theater, not a hotel or inside a Casino.

3. I love Mexican Jesus.

Thank you.

Louis CK

EDIT: I saw his Sorry show at the Keswick last year and it was really good with 2 good openers.

Actually had to turn off the recent Patton Oswalt on Netflix. Just awful. And normally he's beloved in our home.

I liked a few bits and pieces but yeah, just subpar and boring. He was close to the top of my list for years but around the time of him having Netflix specials, he fell lower and lower. And this latest was his worst by miles.
