Ever been racially discriminated? Ever been racially discriminated?

I'm not really looking for blatant discriminations but rather subtle events. I just wanted to see what everyone's experiences are like irregardless of race. I'll start it off with a light one:

If I'm in a store browsing around and there happens to be another asian person being helped, the employees never ask me if I need help. When I finally do ask if I can get some help, I always get the same response: "oh I thought you were with this person". Happens almost every time.

At least they don't say, "Oh I thought you were this person."

Yea
When I lived in Asia, I was automatically
-American ("No, I'm Norwegian" - "Which state is that?" - "It's in Northern Europe" - "Near Canada?" - "Uh...")
-Named "Joe"
-Extremely interested in sex in any setting
-A totally acceptable object to take advantage of

Etc etc but I loved it anyway

Whenever I go have a bite in chinatown with my asian-american friend, they always give him chop sticks and give me a fork. My friend actually hates using chop sticks and always ends up switching with me.

Being a white man I hate that I never automatically get picante sauce at the drive-thru when ordering breakfast. Ketchup? Sure, but you ask for picante and they reach for taco sauce and you have to re-iterate "picante, please. I realize I have white skin. It's OK, I won't die."

When crowding in front of the donut counter at the mercado, I always get helped well after other people who I was there before even after having made eye contact several times.

Realised as an adult that childhood incidents probably had something to do with me being the only non-white etc.

White guy, so it's rare and minor for me. In undergrad, I had a Korean roommate for a couple years. Senior year he wants to take us to his favorite hangout, the only Korean bar in town. So we go and sit at this place for maybe an hour or so without anyone serving us or even making eye contact, then we awkwardly leave. My friend apologizes and says he doesn't know what the deal is.

At some point later, he goes back without us, and apparently the bar people yell at him and accuse him of bringing cops. We were a bunch of dorks in college, but I guess scrawny 21 year old white guys look like cops to Koreans. Also, I don't even get how their behavior is in line with that assumption; seems to me like you'd want to give awesome service to random cops who show up at your bar.

Most Korean places serve to minors so they freak out about random white guys.

used to take all kinds of **** from my neighbors in college, well usually just their friends from youngstown. the only white guy in the room, 'who's the white boy?' 'what's the white boy doing here' etc.

was especially bad (hilarious) when they had some ghetto ****ing strippers for the one dude's 21st...took me saying 'bitch i got 5 dollars too, quit ignoring me' to get a lap dance, it was like a record scratched. 'ohhh no that white boy didn't just....'

haha, good times.

This didn't happen to me but I witnessed it from inside a Pizza shop looking out:

NY a few years ago.....a black guy is standing on the corner trying to flag down a NYC taxi. A taxi cab pulls near the curb and.....slowly drives by. 10 feet down is a white guy also trying to flag a taxi. Taxi stops and picks the white guy up. Most f'd up thing I saw.

Was a cheerleader in undergrad. Didn't make the team the 2nd year after being on the year before. They were always looking for more guys to tryout so they can have a bigger squad, so unless the guy uber-sucks he makes the squad.

Cheer coach hangs the results and all 30ish girls run over to see who made the squad while the 9 guys just laugh at the womenz. We walk over to look at the girls list and boom my name isn't circled. I'm like WTF?

The coach grabs me and takes me outside. She said she had been asked to add more diversity to the squad and that they were leaving one spot open in an effort to recruit a black guy. She actually said black guy, not just any minority.

Then she says if we can't fill the spot then it will be yours. I was ****ing pissed.

I can't imagine just staying there for an hour without complaining to anyone and then leaving quietly. If not you, why didn't your Korean friend who knew the place ask wtf was going on?
