yeah, i was gonna say the same thing. With an income that's not totally reliable like poker, save (and invest) as much as you possibly can.

kind of surprised. i'm 24 and have more money now than ever before. nice car paid off, school paid off and 6 figs in the bank from playing poker and not spending much. surprised at how broke some people are, kinda makes me feel good I guess.

At this second no, because my net worth is ~ 80% in stocks. But on a larger timescale definitely yes. I've been working as an engineer for 3+ years and splitting a house with gf and roommate. I love paying $300 a month for a nice place in Austin.

I just gave 5 weeks notice at work. I'm going to move to MN, be unemployed and possibly supporting my girlfriend who is quitting her job to finish her Master's in 6 months instead of 2 more years. That'll pay off huge though when she gets her degree in non-profit management. Oh wait, no it won't. So looking forward if I shook an magic 8 ball it would read "OUTLOOK NOT SO GOOD"

That doesn't matter though. I'm pretty excited for it. We're going to take a nice vacation to Europe, I'm going to have some time to ride my bike, travel and catch up with old friends. I'm probably going to spend down all the cash I have and then some. Oh well.

I'm the same in that I have everything paid off, I paid cash for my car and don't have any debt for school, i just need to get my savings and investments back up after buying my car. It doesn't help being in school but hopefully I'll make another good chunk in the summer. My goal is to not have any debt until I have a mortgage and I want that to be the only debt I have (if you can even call it that)

This is why you should marry someone who makes a comparable amount of money.

i realize that. the only way i can be noticed as awesome is if certain others aren't so fortunate. still, the number of people talking about debt and whatnot seems surprising to me. but again i'm just a naive kid, right?

no no, you're just awesome. awesome people usually don't recognize unawesomeness.

If not, then pretty close. Have a good paying job, some poker winnings, no debts of any sort, wife and kid. Focusing on doing a lot of saving and have been accumulating money for the past couple years. Some coworkers have called me extremely cheap, but I credit my parents for giving me a solid financial education when I was young in terms of how to manage money for a lot of it.

Without the wife and kid, I'd be very very far ahead of where I am now financially. But to answer the other posters question, it is so far beyond totally worth it, it's ridiculous. "Banging sloots" is nothing compared to my son running out of the house to give me a big hug when I get home from work.

I'm probably going to have this to look forward to after spending all my money in what I am calling my temporary retirement.

Chair and FFK-- How much are you planning on dropping for the wedding? Also, are you expecting any help from the family with costs? Just curious.

My mom gave us some money for our down payment. We chose not to use it, and then when we got engaged it made sense to use it for the wedding. So, sort of. Probably dropping ~15k for the wedding, not including honeymoon. And this is cutting every corner imaginable (besides omitting alcohol). If you had told me six months ago that I'd spend 15k on a wedding I would have laughed in your face.

Ya, I think even the most "budget" of weddings are still in that price range if you include any reasonable number of people.

Maybe I'll get lucky and marry a sugar-momma or someone with rich parents :/
