These people are partly making up a guy to get mad at, and partly have a legit critique about I assume a very small percentage of frightened liberals who have literally still been locked down the whole time despite being young with no comorbidities.

Perfectly reasonable to lockdown for the last couple weeks and for the next 1-4 weeks depending on your locale. It's not permanent.
Yeah it's odd because I live in the bluest of blue states and there's no lockdown and hasn't been for months. Businesses are open, people are out shopping, etc.

I realize though that this is the typical tactic of the right wing. Make up some assault on their freedom and then keep the echo chamber going until it becomes reality in their mind. I think a lot of derps in FL probably really think people in NY and CA aren't allowed to leave their house.

And of course you are right, it makes sense to take more precautions when the situation changes for the worse. I was going to the gym regularly, have decided to work out at home until the omicron wave passes in a few weeks. It's not really a big deal. If a vaxxed person still wants to go to the gym they can, I just choose not to for now.

I had to laugh at the "scandalous" photos of AOC sitting maskless on vacation in Florida at an outdoor restaurant. Desantis and other derps insinuated that the photos proved her hypocrisy... "lockdown politicians" escaping to FL to enjoy freedom.

But... you can eat maskless at an outdoor restaurant in NYC already. In fact you can eat maskless at an indoor restaurant. The only real difference is Florida has nicer weather in the winter, which is the same reason people have always gone there.

Our youngest son (12) is the last one in our family to get it. He woke up with a terrible sore throat on Thursday. We home tested - negative. Fortunately, it was a snow day/no school. We home tested Friday morning - positive. Obv stayed home from school, we called and registered him as C19 positive. Later that day they changed the quarantine period from 10 to 5 days. Day 0 is the first day of symptom onset. He will miss Monday, back to school Tuesday.

He was real sick for 2 days, almost back to normal this morning.

He is fully vaxxed (not up for booster yet).

Glad to hear he's doing better.

Still seems like 5 days is quick, I think in some % of cases you can still be infectious for a couple days longer than that. I think 7 days would have been a better balance between too long and too short.

Facts mean absolutely nothing in these political snark wars.

My twitter feed is mostly political free except the occasional sports figure I follow will retweet some idiot tweet about not locking down or whatever and I dig into the original tweet and the responses. The last one was a good mix of

"COVID is in the vaccine"
"LOL these sheep listening to science without question"
"The scientists keep moving the goalposts"

Would be funy if it wasn't real.

Odd that she's the one with symptoms and doesn't have it. I can't help but be skeptical of the tests, although I know the PCR tests are more accurate so it is possible she just had a cold while he had the rona.

My wife was sick all Christmas week, she was coughing and sneezing and had a sore throat, basically typical cold symptoms. She got tested twice with rapid tests which both came up negative. But then she got a PCR test as a precaution, which came up positive. Two days later she took a follow-up rapid test at home, which showed positive. So I guess the rapid tests just take longer to detect the virus. I feel like that makes them very limited in preventing spread though... she was already symptomatic for 2 days and the rapid test still said negative, but she'd clearly still be infectious at that point.

Of the three, "COVID is the vaccine" most illogical, at least for anyone who gives it just a few seconds of thought. It was epitomized by the Cambridge-educated lawyer Leslie Lawrenson who said he hope he caught COVID so he would have the antibodies. He sadly died a week later.

So their thinking is - let's catch the disease that may kill me so I'll be protected from the disease that may kill me. Makes perfect sense.

ruh roh Oz

If BNO News is credible their twitter says 116,024 new cases

USA#1 901,369 new cases

USA#1 population > 10x that of Australia.

I think the oz numbers are a little twisted. Something about Victoria now accepting antigen tests in the last week and then all being lumped on today’s total.

Still a crap ton of positives, but the population is 90% vaxxed I believe so hopefully it doesn’t wreck them.

Yea there's not even a lockdown or any serious restrictions to protest, they're literally just mad at people on Twitter saying there should be restrictions. To be fair, those people have been crying wolf about strictness the whole time, even at times where it was obviously fine to have large crowds or be maskless in some circumstances; they just happen to be correct for this month.

Not sure what, if any, conclusion can be drawn here.

Went out for my Sunday morning grocery shopping which involves two stores. First to Safeway and then a stop at Trader Joe’s.

I noticed that very few people at Safeway were wearing masks. I didn’t do a formal survey but looking back I’d estimate about 30% masked.

Dropped into Trader Joe’s. Probably around 150 people in the store. I did not see a single unmasked person.

Struck me as odd is all.

Well I'm not sure what our leaders could have done tbh. I even include Trump in that. His admin spearheaded OWS and created effective vaccines in record time. AFAIK hospitals, while stressed, never had to turn away seriously-ill Covid patients or ran out of ventilators or let people die in the hallways.

This was going to sweep across the globe, simple fact. Yes testing could have been better (and still should be). Messaging has been confusing. But I am of the opinion that a government cannot stop a highly-contagious disease that can be spread by the asymptomatic. I live in a blue state and everyone I know was very careful and all got vaccinated. Yet here we are, many of them got Covid anyway. All, thankfully, are fine thanks to being vaccinated/boosted.

usa has had one of the worst, if not the very worst, covid results of any country.

usa had the most resources to fight the pandemic, and the most warning. first it was in asia, then europe, then usa.

we should have had among the best results. it's widely known that usa healthcare is absurd, given how wealthy the nation is. ok sure, we have some of the best healthcare in the world, *if you are rich*... but healthcare for the whole population, including poor people has been shown to be crap. that's because of corrupt leadership. we supposedly live in a democracy with a govt by the people, for the people. if that was true we'd have healthcare for all of us. we'd have paid sick leave so people can stay home from work and not spread disease.

i mean cuomo was literally killing people in old folks homes. that's not even really disputed, is it? and he was a dem, in a blue state.

im not talking just about trump saying it doesn't exist and it'll be gone by easter 2020 lol... im talking about living in a society created by corporate interest, where people are so poor they have to work day after day, even if they are sick, and without access to healthcare, and this is in the richest country in the world.

Never is not true. Had a good friend of mine whose mother died last year. She died waiting to get a spot in the ICU.

Liberal family member was telling me about how several conservative family members (all vaccinated) caught it, and basically presented it as dumb and a moral failing on their part (for not taking Covid seriously). But meanwhile this person goes to indoor exercise classes right now! "Everyone wears masks, I wear a double" and somehow is under the impression that's foolproof.

Go to indoor exercise classes if you're comfortable with the risk, but don't think that because you're in a Team Blue zone and wearing a mask you're golden. Complete politicization of masks with no understanding of science whatsoever.
