I had covid last year and got my first dose of Moderna last week. I had some minor side effects - arm soreness, fatigue, and chills. The interesting part was that the chills I got from the vaccine were exactly the same as from having covid. Very surface level, like I'd get goosebumps and the hair on my arms would stand up, but I never felt cold to the core or in need of blankets/warmth. I would think that means the vaccine is working!

This was quite the doomscroll, and also one of my biggest fears the last year. That guy definitely has some real lung damage. I remember Zona being one of the dumber covid states. He's almost 6 months deep at this point ffs.

The crown of health is seen only by the sick, or something like that.

Got the JNJ today (first day of open eligibility in NV). Arrived 30 minutes early for appointment, expecting a madhouse, and.... 2 other people were there. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

When the French took the initial stab at the Panama Canal - they all truly believed that a virtuous lifestyle was the key to not getting yellow fever, malaria and all the other crap that could kill you down there. These were graduates of the French Polytechnic school - the most advanced bastion of scientific learning in the world at the time.

One guy who was in charge brought his wife and kids, then watched them die of disease one by one.

They legit believed they had some agency in who got sick and who didn't. It's such a powerful human need, it clouds out reason.

Tom Wolfe describes the same thing at the beginning of The Right Stuff when the experimental test pilots were dying at about 1 per month. The pilots had to believe that their comrades did something wrong. They couldn't accept it was random chance. But of course in their case it makes sense as you can't lose your confidence.

Michigan is open to anyone, got a ping yesterday for a walk-in at a Walgreens nearby with no appointment required. Taking that as a very good sign on the supply side and if it continues to get easier to get one that'll help the demand side too as people who are on the fence or just lazy might decide to just do it.

(I already had my first)

I think this is one of the reasons why Thai traffic is about the most dangerous in the world, and for their apparent indifference to dangerous situations - they just always expect Buddha to have their backs, as they're a good person, even when driving 100km/h wasted on POS motorbike.

Never had the balls to ask in a funeral what they thought the dead did wrong or why he/she wasn't good enough person to be protected.

Prolly would have had more impact had he not misspelled "scarring."

As it happens, I had to take a hereditary hemochromatosis test a couple of years ago. Sadly, it was not the result of being picked up by Rebecca Romijn

Finally eligible in PA. Coded up a script to text myself when a Rite Aid appointment became available. It hit on the first day and I'm scheduled for Pfizer #1 next Tuesday. Got one for my sister, too. Looks like CVS had a lot more appointments, but almost all were in Philly which has a different phase than the rest of the state.

Got an email a few hours later from my county that I am now eligible and should register for an appointment, but appointments are 6-8 weeks out, which seems like a joke.

I am WFH, so this isn't a big deal, but it will be nice as I have a trip scheduled for July.
