Mexico becomes the 19th country to reach 0.1% dead from COVID. It's the third non-European country (11 Peru, 13 USA) to hit the mark.

That's the most un-shocking news I've heard today. (except that it should be way higher)

If you have symptoms, you stay home, and don't spread. If you don't have symptoms, guess what...

I wonder how many people who have already gotten the vaccine still contracted coronavirus somehow afterward and the percentage those people are out of all of the people who have gotten the vaccine.

Looks like a doctor in Florida died from the Pfizer vaccine.

My wife got round one of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. She has flu symptoms today and can barely move her arm. She had Covid and her reaction to the vaccine has been worse than her experience with Covid.

She woke up feeling fine today, even the arm soreness is gone.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/healt...s, study shows

It really seems like we shouldn’t be giving the vaccine right now to people who have already had covid. All the evidence suggests that they already have immunity that is at least as effective as the vaccine, so this is just wasteful during a time in which we need to be thinking mostly above maximizing efficiency of spreading immunity.

News actually says that he died of a hemhorragic stroke two weeks after getting the vaccine, not that he died from the vaccine. That's still an open question.

Fixed your link. Most places are vaccinating recovered patients if it's been more than three months, based on earlier studies. Also, note that the 8-month+ plateaued immunity doesn't apply to 10% of recovered patients. As one of the co-authors put it, “If I had covid, I would still not throw away my masks, I would not go to rave parties. People still need to be responsible,” Sette said. “It’s like driving a car where you know you have 90 percent probability that the brakes work.”

Thanks for fixing it.

My point is that if someone is already 90% likely to have immunity, the vaccine is very likely to be wasted.

Wearing a mask if you've already had covid doesn't prevent other people from being able to wear masks.

But giving a scarce vaccine to someone for whom it will be effective less than 10% of the time has a huge cost when you could instead give that vaccine to someone for whom it will be 95% effective.

We should vaccinate people who have already had covid, but only once the vaccine is widely available to everyone.

If you read the timeline and what happened, a reaction to the vaccine seems to be the mostly likely cause.

Yes I think these type of reactions will be pretty common, and I think the medical experts should probably be warning people more about the possible short-term side effects. They seem to be glossing over them, and the reactions can be pretty severe. They generally only last a day or so, but can be quite a bit worse than similar reactions people may have experienced from flu vaccine. And the reactions after shot #2 can be worse.

People should probably be planning to take the day off after each dose, especially #2. While some will be fine, many will have side effects that make going to work difficult or nearly impossible.

Again it is tough to say for sure. Young seemingly healthy people do die suddenly sometimes from strokes, aneurysms, heart attack, etc. With millions (eventually billions) of people getting vaccinated, the odds of someone's death coinciding with getting the vaccine are pretty good.

That is not to say that this could not have been a rare and fatal reaction to the vaccine. However, causation has not been proven.

Maybe. I'd also point out that over 5M vaccines have been injected in the US, and over that number of people, there will be some that die of unrelated issues that are correlated to but not caused by the vaccine.

This one event does not deter me in the slightest from getting a vaccine.

In widespread distribution, people with a combination of factors which didn't happen to come up in the trials will get the vaccine.

Probably some of these combinations will, unfortunately, be dire or fatal for those people.

As Howard states, it won't deter me. If I'm the one-in-a-million, it sucks to be me.

Not going to deter me either. What he died from was something they were specifically looking for during the trials, but it never happened.

Fair enough. I just think it's a mistake to assume correlation is the same as causation.

I was looking at LA county's current data... It makes North Dakota look good (Seriously!). e.g. 15% of East LA or 15% of San Fernando have tested positive. Hispanic communities are getting crushed. Disaster zones. And I have to believe these stats are way way underreported.
