This comports with my observations. I'm in a southern city that has seen protests against the restrictions and has its share of rednecks. However, when I go out most people I see are wearing masks and behaving carefully. Not 100% of the people, but easily 80% or more.

Exact opposite here in Myrtle Beach. Less than 10 % of people where masks in public including bars and restaurants. Maybe about 25% of service industry wearing them.

So do these unemployment rules mean the scumbag poker pro types could go to Texas, get a job as a poker dealer (or any random job anywhere with exposure to the public), work a few weeks, quit due to one of the COVID reasons, then get unemployment for the rest of the year, while continuing to play poker at the same time???? What a scam.

If I were a poker room manager I would be especially wary of hiring anyone who might be looking to do this kind of thing.

There will probably be dealer shortages until unemployment gets bad again. The newest stimulus bill might make it last through December.

The only people working will be those with established careers who have been working at the casino for a long time and want to keep working there for many years.

Not one employee had a mask on in any of the establishments I visited. I saw 1 employee in the grocery store wearing gloves and 1 employee doing takeout had gloves. Other then the restaurants not being able to open, it sure does seem like no one gives a damn down here. My wife’s family says it’s been like that for a few weeks now.
This is 100 % accurate.

I believe unemployment insurance is based on the length of time you were actually employed in the recent past.

So that is a LOT of people who don't have to go back to work.

Other reasons are here:

http://labor.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/la...ARY%202020.pdf
Warning: The valid reasons for unemployment claims vary significantly from state to state. Be very careful with what you read online and ignore information from states that aren't your own. The rule about childcare is vague and is being interpreted very differently in different states.

Unemployment insurance is based on your reported earnings in the past. In general it is based on the past year in every state I know of. You will not earn enough in a few weeks to qualify for unemployment.

But even if you only get $1 from your state you will still get the $600 weekly from the federal part.

The stimulus bill was so, so, stupid. It would have been 1000x better for the economy to do temporary universal basic income.

this is way too convoluted

just find someone with a corp who trusts you, have them put you on payroll retroactively then apply for unemployment effective 1st day of the following quarter

pretty sure there are thousands of people receiving unemployment rn who haven't worked a day in their lives

Who cares? Give away all the money! It'll be cheaper than a depression.

So, like, we should give everyone some amount - like $600, just to pick a number - regardless of whether they make $1, or $0, or $1000?

County deaths last 4 days: 8, 0, 50, 7. Not a typo. I feel like some nursing homes are only reporting weekly after the weekend.

Better news, new cases a month ago: 200, a week ago: 164, today 53. Last 3 days are all under 100.

My daughter’s hours got cut from 40 to 24. A normal 40 hour week she would bring home about 350. Now she brings home about 210 from her job and another 680 a week in unemployment lol

Hey all, wanted to report on what Covid-19 really is like. So I found out today that I tested positive. I’ve had symptoms for 5 days and honestly it hasn’t been that bad. Had a fever for 2-3 days and was extremely fatigued. Starting to feel better now and honestly just have a little fatigue but can tell I’m going to recover well.

Probably like a bad cold or the flu.

Glad to hear you came out on the milder side with yours. Mate of mine had similar to yourself.

Rigsley has had to go for surgery as a result of his, so you've had a touch.

All the best.

Do you have an idea where/how you got it? If you think you know - how long before the symptoms started? Before the real symptoms were there any super mild symptoms or weird things like losing taste and smell?

I worked a job for 4 weeks as a temp and was told not to come in because the assignment ended. Any chance I'll be approved for unemployment?

And then we just get rid of the "temporary" and utopia ensues. No need to employ an army of government bureaucrats to decide who gets what

As more things open up there will be more drastic labor shortages. Bars and other competitive employers will be able to pay more to lure lower paid no-tips workers like grocery store workers away from their jobs, and then shelves will be even emptier.

If no one here knows you might want to google "Cares Act" and your state.

This article https://www.vox.com/2020/4/3/2119968...rance-furlough says this:

Quote:
Who qualifies for this expanded unemployment insurance program?

The CARES Act opened up unemployment benefits to a range of people who weren’t eligible before, including gig economy workers like drivers for Uber or Lyft, freelancers, and independent contractors. Part-time employees who lost their jobs due to coronavirus will also be covered, as will people who had to stop working to take care of a sick member of their family or homeschool their children.

Bottom line: If coronavirus is responsible for your layoff, furlough, or drastic reduction of your hours — or is preventing you from looking for work because fewer employers are hiring — you have a good chance of getting these expanded benefits. It’s worth applying even if you are unsure if you’ll be covered.

Who doesn’t qualify for this expanded unemployment insurance program?
People who are working from home but still getting a full wage are not eligible for benefits. Undocumented immigrants are not eligible; neither are new entrants into the workforce, like recent college graduates, because they don’t have a long enough work history to apply for benefits.
Here is some info from Washington. (I think they have a better website than most because Microsoft donated their time to streamline it.)

A lot of people won't go back to their old jobs yet because they will still be able to get unemployment.

Employers have to pay more than the unemployment benefits and more than other jobs to get people to work for them.

(Or pay people in cash under the table, so maybe those kinds of jobs will be staffed.)
