Oh ****! He's the cat who wrote 'That Thing You Do!' for that Tom Hanks film when he was in his 20's. Also wrote the poppy songs for the Hugh Grant movie Music and Lyrics, as well as loads of other soundtracks. Guy could write catchy pop songs with brilliant vocal orchestration on command. Sad. RIP.

Nothing to see here, move along.

You're missing the point.

I'm not an idiot, I'm taking standard precautionary measures but I also refuse to panic and live in absolute fear like the vast majority of you. Calm down, all. This too shall pass.

going to be a lot of people in America who will be frantically deleiting their facebook and twitter posts in the next few months

The scores of ball games don't matter, the turn of a card doesn't matter, golf courses don't matter, the rat race doesn't matter ... all the things that we lose our lives in, ultimately, don't matter. A pandemic lesson and possible reset. I highly recommend the novel "The Plague." Just off the charts.

No. You're a doof because you're still harnessing the Trump mentality from Jan/Feb.

Ok, so the mathematical models created by the best scientists and mathematicians in the world say that with perfect mitigation techniques, the American death toll will be between 80K and 200K. Without it, between 1.6MM and 2.2MM American deaths. Are you suggesting that we should 10x the death rate because you're worried about the deep state or whatever coming for your freedom?

Can you imagine what it was like watching people die suddenly all around in droves and not have any idea why, as was the case in earlier eras with epidemics? We've got a fighting chance and I think our scientists will prevail, meaning the world's scientists. So far the politicians, and the political arms of science, have been remarkably inadequate to the task.

If this thing really is droplet then there shouldn't be any problem at all going for bike rides and walks around other people. You aren't touching anything other people have coughed on or touched with their cough hands. So long as you don't take a sneeze to the eyeballs you should be fine. But everybody knows it's really airborne but the CDC refuses to say the word "airborne" because that indicates a different protocol with different PPE that we don't have. They'd rather lie and say droplet precautions knowing that they're sending healthcare workers to their deaths.

I'm seeing 1049 deaths in USA#1 yesterday (and 563 in the UK, 864 in Spain, 837 in Italy). Still need to see 27's official post.

Euroland still kicking our asses on a per population basis though.

Also: What's the current thinking as to expected mortality rate (obviously I know it's a guess and depends in part on methodology)? We've got ~ 10,000 cases here in Michigan but "only" ~ 350 deaths so far. There will undoubtedly be more deaths from those confirmed positives, but that number still is lower than I would have guessed.

Well it takes 20 days on average to die.

Which is why there will undoubtedly be more deaths from the positive population.

Also, one of the more interesting graphics of the day, courtesy of the NY Times:

Takeaways: Nuke the South.

On a more serious note, there are some things that are counterintuitive -- like large swaths of the midwest stopping travel early when you'd expect that would never stop in many counties given long travel distances to get to basic services like groceries. NY metro indicated as stopped relatively early, though there's the opposite situation re travel distances and who knows how the population traveling through NY is accounted for, etc

Ah the poker nerdz are out in full force.

Walking outside not near people is so low risk, it’s comical people even ask. Just avoid being too close to people and you will be fine.

Today is the first I've heard of them (CDC) confirming (admitting?) it's aerosolized.

In case you haven't noticed, don't make the CDC your "go to" source for all things C-19. They've been compromised by the federal gov't.
