Today there is MLB, NHL, NBA, WNBA, College Football, Kentucky Derby, Golf, Tennis, UFC and NFL starting in a few days.

NFL is not cancelling any games. Way too much money involved. It would take the death of a player.

They said the same thing about Vegas and it closed.

In March, I said the same things about the NCAA tournament. Given their greed, I was shocked when that call came.

"Pretend it doesn't exist" has worked way better than it should for the NFL with regards to CTE. I bet they go full speed ahead with that tactic.

I can see some games getting postponed, but the the NFL is a lot easier to handle, with their whole week off between games, than the MLB.

If you watch Hard Knocks: Los Angeles which airs episode 5 tonight(I haven't seen it tonight yet), the players are tested multiple times a week and have daily temp checks/etc. and that is just for practice.

Plus, like I posted above, only 1 out of 2641 tested came back positive.

A team will get a major infection problem at some point but games will only stop if that team infects another at a large rate (I.e a defensive end gets it week 2 and while infectious gives it to the other teams entire O-Line).

I doubt any game is stopped but think the number of total players that get it over the next four months is probably 50-100

Early in the restarted baseball season, a few teams had multiple infections and their next several games were cancelled while they did mass testing and then they were back in action a week later.

But there is a ton of 7 inning double headers a week to make these games up. In football that could be a problem. Maybe they have a plan to allow a game or 2 of makeup and the end of the year, only if they have a chance for the playoffs.

If NFL players get infected, they will just be replaced by people on the practice squad. In the 1980s, almost every player in the league went on strike, and the league replaced them with scabs. For three weeks, most teams were entirely made up of people signed off the street. I can’t see how covid would be a problem with this attitude.

Yea, watching tonight's episode of Hard Knocks. They said this year they are increasing the practice squad to 16 players, which is 4 more than normal, in case some players get the virus.

The PGA has already shown how you don't really need a bubble if you have proper testing procedures, travel procedures, social distancing procedures, etc.

I mean, if it was really going to be a problem for the NFL, it would've already reared its ugly head. If players were going to catch it, they'd be doing it in their own cities already. The NFL really doesn't have to worry about players catching it on the road since they travel Saturday night and players don't really go out (Sunday is the day they actually go out since Monday is the most relaxed day).

I'm sure there are plenty of rules relating to these things too, so a team is absolutely not going to **** around if a random player violates these rules and will probably cut that player since that's how the NFL operates.

Only thing to worry about for the NFL is if there is some massive wave of outbreaks in the country in general. College football on the other hand...

lol at people comparing sports like golf and baseball to football in regards to how close everyone is to each other during the sport etc... Obviously its easier to distance in golf than it is in football.

If Covid isn't on the field (buckets of testing) why does it matter how close the players are when they get on the field?

I think the potential problem is dealing with the outside world between games: to airport, on the plane, to hotel, with kids/wife who've been to school/work, etc.

Any of these could be a source of transmission. I also think that it takes a week or so for the virus to be testable once it's acquired(?)

So, a player's exposed on the flight over to the next game, tests ok that weekend, but it able to transmit it during the game (and to his teammates) for a while til he tests positive.

I'm not sure why I think that's possible though; I could be off.

Im curious how many NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL wives work traditional jobs. As opposed to say, Hunter Pence's wife who may run their coffee shop as a way to spend her days.

I don't understand the NFL testing well enough either, but I would think if a significant lag existed between catching COVID and testing positive we would have seen at least one outbreak due to that lag in camps.
