I tried to call about that job and no answer. I'm feeling like I didn't get it. If they really wanted me, they would be calling me. I'm going to spend the day searching and applying for other jobs.

Mlylt,

You've been applying to jobs for the last couple of weeks, right?

Yes, but not many. I'm trying to be picky and only apply for the jobs I'm a really really good fit for.

Based on your posting history, it seems like you're either a terrible judge of what jobs would be a good fit, or you're not able to land jobs that are a good fit. In either case, it seems like you should be applying to many more than you are now.

I had a friend who's also in engineering who got a good job straight of uni entirely because she was a woman and they needed to fulfill their diversity requirements.

She was probably hot tho.

Spoiler:
I mean seriously, did they later tell her that ti was entirely because she's a woman? Or is this just based on your knowledge of the person or something?

Thank-you notes have always seemed desperate an try-hard to me. Those are for people without marketable skills, right?

It's just courtesy, isn't it?

Do you think hiring managers want superfluous emails? They get enough as it is. The concept seems patronizing to me.

I thought calling my grandparents to thank them for the money they sent me for Christmas was enough but apparently they always resented the fact that I never sent them a physical thank you card in the mail.

My point is that not everyone expects the same things. I'm sure there are a few hiring managers that might roll their eyes every time they see this type of correspondence, but I highly doubt in the majority of cases that sending a thank you letter/email will have more negative impact than positive impact when compared to not sending one.

And assuming you can properly write a thank you letter, it can't hurt you.
But it might help you.
If you're desperate to find a job, why wouldn't you send one? Not like you'd be busy doing anything else.

Had a consultant coordination meeting for a school project today: four out of the five engineers were female.

Spoiler:
lol-canadian-female-engineers tho

She's about a strong 6 low 7 imo. She told me she had way less experience than any of the other guys and that the only reason she got the job was that she was a woman.

The thank you note seems to be a cultural thing and therefore it can definitely hurt depending on where you are located imo. There is no way you can compare it with thanking your grandparents for the money they sent at xmas time.

Well what really sucks is these days an interview typically means 4 to 7 different people. It takes some effort to make sure you gather everyone's business cards and/or contact info. And then you're supposed to personalize each thank you, so we're not talking a trivial time commitment.

And after going through all that trouble 90% of the time the ****ers don't have the decency to contact you if they decide to move on with someone else.

I know it's just how the game is played, but it blows.

Code 3 is such a goddam loser. I let him make me think he actually cares about me again when all he has ever been worried about is his stupid self! He continually uses me and uses my feelings for him against me to get what he wants. I can't believe I ever fell for such a loser. I'm so mad right now. I'm leaving at the end of the month and finding a job back home; I'm not letting this pathetic loser use me ever again!

And every single person on this board told you repeatedly to use some common sense and be done with the whole thing. But you didn't listen.

I'm sure you'll still try to "fix" things anyway and in another 6 months we will be reading the same pathetic posts all over again.

I don't care what he does. He will be left here with nothing but a computer desk. He will be sleeping on the floor with a sheet. I gave him one more chance to choose me like an idiot. I knew he wouldn't and was just using me again.
