Of the shows that do hold up, most are comedies.

Rockford Files, McCloud, Banachek, and McMillian & Wife, etc. Every once in a while, I'll catch one on MeTV or the like. Damn fine tee vee, there, don'cha know?

Oh, just one more thing. Columbo. But I already own every Columbo episode on DVD.

I remember enjoying Hogan's Heroes in syndication when I was a kid.

As an adult the idea of a sitcom lampooning the Nazis starring a lot of Jewish actors who were directly affected by the Holocaust just 20 years after the war ended is pretty remarkable. We're overdue for the premiere of an al-Qaeda-based comedy, it seems.

The thing about 70s tv that has stood the test of time is the theme music imo, so many great pieces with Rockford Files at the top of the heap

i watched everything listed so far and miss them all...or rather the times. i'll stop and watch a little now but it's true, they don't really stand the test of time like the movies do.

I had a fun day.

I have a shelby gt500 I took to have serviced yesterday. It only has 15k miles on it. But, the tires are now 10 years old and the dealer rightfully told me they need to be replaced. Being a holiday weekend, they cant get the tires until Wed.

That’s fine, sounds like the perfect excuse to go out and roast a $2k set of tires.

I was so excited, I barely slept last night.

This morning, I head out to an abandoned rail yard not too far from my house for some fun. It has a large asphalt lot that is wide open. I make sure I have my AAA card with me because I fully plan on burning the tires right off the wheels. I’d be really disappointed if I didn’t have to have the car towed to the shop. It’s not often you get the chance to abuse 760hp of pure American muscle v8 excess.

Well, I guess I was having too much fun.

I saw the cop come into the lot. Apparently, the rail yard is technically on tribal land. I didn’t think too much about it. I was sure the cop would see the situation for what it was and tell me to grow up and go home.

That is not what happened. The cop was seriously pissed and even put me in handcuffs for a brief time. 10-15 minutes I’d guess. The whole time lecturing me like I was a 15 year old.

He kept telling me he could take me to jail.

End result, I get a ticket for ‘exhibition of speed’ which is a criminal offense. It’s not a ticket I can just pay. Ignorance is no excuse, I guess.

Already spoke to an attorney, and while it will probably be expensive, it won’t be the end of the world.

So, I’m sitting here this afternoon, trying to think of a better spot to go in the morning.

Those tires are not going to live until Wed.
Went to court this morning. As mentioned, it is a criminal ticket so I did show up with an attorney. We go into a little room with the prosecutor or whatever he is. I guess they try and work out a quick disposition in hopes of wasting the court’s time.

Anyway, attorney gives them my name and the guy finds the file. Opens it and looks up and says ‘we’re dismissing the ticket’. ‘Have a good day’.

No explanation offered and we didn’t ask.

Peace out.

Absolutely, I'd top my list with Hawaii Five-O, Barnaby Jones, High Chaparral, The Virginian, Jeffersons, Munsters, and even Patty Duke.

edit: oh, Green Acres!

This film is one of my all time favourite comedies, 4 british muslims trying to become terrorists.

I just assumed that since it wasn't on a street, the ticket was bogus. It would be trespassing or something like that. Slow night for the cop in question, I guess.

Glad you beat the rap!

Incredible!

I was let off with warnings at the time I was stopped several times, but I never had a ticket dismissed at the time I got to court. Fewer opportunities for me of course, but it seems as if you might have stumbled upon a unicorn.

The one time I actually challenged a moving violation as wrong, the judge cut me off shortly into my argument and said "I'm gonna throw it out." It was for "unsafe lane change" stemming from a crash I got into when another car and I converged on the same middle lane on the freeway. I had done the usual safety progressions and the blind spot appeared to be wide open, and then I found out that apparently it wasn't by the time I got there.

I wasn't a lawyer at the time, so I didn't go in with any real knowledge of legal minutiae to exploit. Just went in as a layman to try to explain why I thought the officer's conclusion was wrong.

and that's when you decided lawyerin was easy and decided to make that a career?

I've been stopped 3 times for speeding (all<20 miles over limit).
Each time I was given a warning - I think that was because I was
wearing my USN VN cap. Winning!!! What a great trade off...

Probably not since I decided that years later. In hindsight, that was a rather stupid thought process, no matter the fact that I put a ton of time into the deciding. Thankfully I got lucky and I enjoy it.

Only one time I was let go on the side of the road. But it wasn't any smooth talking.

I got pulled over doing 110 on the freeway. Trooper comes up on the passenger side with that attitude - 'Why are you driving that fast' - Got my DL and registration and I listened to the 30 second lecture. He walks back to his car and two minutes later, he runs up to my car - tossed my dl and reg onto the seat and says - 'this is your lucky day - I have somewhere to go'. 'Slow the **** down'. Runs back to his car and peels out of there.

Thank you to whomever was doing something worse than me at that time.

I got pulled over in New York for speeding in a company car. I had a ND drivers license, the car had NJ plates, it was owned by a company in CT, and leased by a company in MA. The cop just looked at the docs and told me to slow down.
08-16-2023 , 04:17 PM
Pretty much the exact same story as P.az here. 40+ over, trooper had an injury accident to respond to, told me to 'slow the f down'. Damn, that was almost 20 years ago.
08-16-2023 , 05:32 PM
The funniest one I had was 15-20 years ago a state trooper made a U-turn across the median of the interstate and pulled six (I think) of us over. I had just passed all of them and had pulled back over into the right lane well front of them when my radar detector went off. I immediately slowed down and the first one behind me started passing me and the others started falling in line behind him. That was about the point when the trooper came into view.

When we all came to a stop I was at the back of the line and I was so mad that I didn't even notice that my radar detector was still blasting and lit up like a Christmas tree. I was the first window he walked up to. He was apparently about as mad as I was since he didn't notice my radar detector going off either. I beat him to the punch and before he could say a word I asked, "What in the world is this for?" He asked, "Were you the one they were all passing?" I truthfully answered, "Yes." He told me, "Never mind. Go ahead" and walked on up to the next car as I was driving off.

I've been let go with a warning far more often than I've been ticketed.
*knock wood*

eugene oregon when i was an incollegy major
weak knights we'd hang out at good times on high street for four buck pitchers and quarter pool.
one particular thirsty thursday a buddy and i were sparking with a couple of new found friends and quickly realized we were underfunded for the opportunity ahead.
good times didn't include an atm back then, so i offered to hoof it up high street to my bank about eight blocks away while powell hung back and entertained the ladies

the first turn came on the third block, walking right past my car parked at the house with keys in pocket.
feckit, i'll be down and back before you know it

call off forty bucks, leaving seventy five behind, and the next decision is the big one.
do i make three rights to turn left to save four blocks of one way downtown streets , or do i drive a half block the wrong way to scoot down high alley on my way back to the ladies?

wishing i could append the decision made by that age

commit to the turn and almost immediately my headlights sweep across the side of a squad car pulling up to the intersection of high street and 11th.
here's a graphical representation
Spoiler:

traffic cop lights me up before i could complete the action
no doubt i'm caught, and being at the bar for hours before doesn't help the situation
neither do shaky hands fanning him with my license and insurance when i ship it
or giving him my ss number when he only asks how to call me up on the phone
apparently what did help was slow rolling my own cigarette breath

told him i was just trying to get back home on the route i always take when lazy, and he lets me go

So that is what they mean by hard time.

I've only had a few "court appearances" for traffic tickets, one of which I found amusing, but my favorite one was when a HS friend asked me to go with him to pay his ticket one day after school. We didn't know where this Justice of the Peace's office was other than the general area on a rural highway west of town. We drove up and down the road, but saw nothing that resembled an office. My friend finally decided to stop somewhere to ask so he pulled into a driveway.

Next to the modest house there was a small cinder block house with a (literal) pig farmer sitting in a cane bottomed chair leaning against the front wall. My buddy pulled up and yelled through his window, "Hey, pops! Can you tell me where we can find Judge Gerheart?" Old guy in a t-shirt and overalls just spit out some tobacco and said, "You're looking at him, son." One of us broke out laughing!

The theme for Perry Mason is a banger.

Peter Gunn Theme is pretty darn good.
