OK, so promised TR from the EPT weekend etc.
Got back from super hot 24 day holidays in Greece on Tuesday morning. Mrs Bat's birthday celebrations were excellent, cashed in wcoop PLO, went deep in another event.
Fixed up to meet with Bogus and Bee on Thursday.
Wednesday night went to sort out hotel booking online. Hilton (the EPT venue) seemed pretty expensive, saw unnamed marble arch hotel at £380 for 3 nights, so went to book that. Turned out it was no smoking. Went back on the site, another hotel at marble arch, smoking rooms, £450. Tried to book it, not available. Girl on the site said the hotel suggested the Cumberland hotel as an alternative at £590. I thought this was getting out of hand, so booked the unnamed one at £380, which ofc turns out to be the Cumberland haha.
Brilliant sunshine Thursday, drove the 200+ miles to london with the top down all the way. Would have gone on the bike if I hadn't had 3 days worth of stuff & laptop etc with me ... Got to the hotel about 3.30pm.
Went to the pub we had arranged to meet at, around 5.30. I was the first there, so got a drink. Bee turned up 10-15 minutes later, and I knocked my drink over him & everything else within about 10 seconds ... doh
OB and Mrs Bogus arrived about 20 minutes later. Enjoyed meeting, had (several) drinks ... Photos taken with OB's creepy Tiny Tears doll
(I'm the good looking dude btw, the other one is Bee)
Talked about maybe playing the NLH/PLO side event on Friday £500+£500+£50, Bee says he will take 5% if I play (UHNM and Waffle had already said they would take 10% each). OB had to leave (10pm ish ?), and I stayed and had more to drink with bee until he had to go get the tube home (11pm ish ?).
Was pretty drunk by this time to be fair
So it seemed like a good time to check out the Vic casino (one of the EPT venues) as I was walking past anyway ...
Went to the cashier to buy £500 in chips to play 1/2(/4) PLO. Started to count £20 notes, but was so useless the cashier offered to take them and count them out for me
Bought in for £300, kept £200 in my pocket. Couple of standard PLO type hands, wrap that didn't hit etc, down to ~£160. Put my other £200 into my stack. Some Italian guy on my right (who I kinda recognized, not sure) pots PF and I call with 6644. Flop Q62hh, he pots and I repot, we get it in. Turn Q, my boat > his flush draw. Total pot ~£600, my stack is about £660 or so. He leaves.
Vic reg is now on my right, as the empty seat isn't filled. I'm in LP. £4 straddle, UTG+1 pots, reg 3bets pot, I cold call 3 bet w A345cc, UTG+1 calls. Pot is ~£160. Flop A46hh. Reg pots for £160 and I call (would have shoved, but I was drunk, couldn't be bothered to count my loose chips, and i reckoned it was all going in on turn anyway lols). Turn is a brick, he shoves, I call, river 7. I show my 53 and he mucks. ~£1200 pot. Biggest single pot I've ever won in a cash game. I play maybe 6 or 7 more hands & leave, cash out £1184 in chips.
Friday, wake up with pretty nasty headache ... Decide to play the event, since my £684 profit plus the action sold is coming close to the buyin. Walk up to the Vic to buy in about 4pm then chill in my hotel room for a bit. Spliff, Enprinte, Bona, IceW0lf buy action. Walk up to the Hilton for about 6.30pm.
Hall is pretty big, ME day 1A is going on, tons of people playing. 58 are entered when I sit down, and that climbs pretty quickly to 111 runners. I can see John Duthie & Devilfish on the next table.
Nik Persaud is on my table and Joseph Cheong a little later (I think). I'm playing pretty tight. Starting stacks are 20K = 400bb, but it's a turbo. game changes after every orbit between NL and PLO.
First few minutes I raise unopened NL pot on btn with AJ, and get 3bet from blinds, I call. Flop J64. I cbet, villain raises, i call. turn brick, check/check, river brick, villain bets, I call. he has J6o, wtf ...! I've lost about 5000 chips fml ...
I play pretty snug after that. I'm playing mainly PLO hands rather than NL, and I'm folding a lot in EP. I win smallish pots and start to chip up. As we approach the break I'm the 2nd biggest stack on my table. I haven't played big pots, haven't been AI, haven't won any bounties. Guy on my right busts - who comes and sits down, the guy I won the £1200 pot from last night !
Just before break he gets it in with the NFD against 2 shorties, and takes 2 bounties. I keep on chipping up, win 2 bounties.
Next break, we get back and I get 4567r. He raises and I call. Flop Q45dd, he pots and I repot, i have him covered, he calls AI. Turn 5. River diamond, he makes his nut flush, but my boat is good ! That guy must think I'm his nemesis or something. Another bounty.
I raise TT from MP at NL. Btn calls. Flop TT8, i check, he bets 2/3 of his stack, I shove, he has to call. He shows A8 drawing dead.
I keep on keeping on, chipping up, playing pretty tight, but I'm prepared to get it in at PLO if I feel I have decent equity, particularly against a shorty as each bounty is another £500.
AE texts me from the Vic, and I say I'm still playing. At the next break we meet up, and he keeps railing until the end.
I get it in with AKJ9s > AAxx, I pair the K & the 9.
I get it in with a wrap vs 2 shorties on the bubble and hit my straight.
All of a sudden it's the FT ! I have 7 bounties and a reasonable stack. I take 2 more bounties on the FT - I call Nik's JJ shove with KQs, flop flush draw, river the flush.
Now we're 5 handed. I'm trying to steal my share, and stay out of trouble.
2 more bust. It's 3 handed. Me, Devilfish on my left, David Williams on my right. I feel as though I can't pick my spots any more, Williams is shoving Wide, and though Devilfish is the shortstack, I kinda feel that he's soulreading me sometimes. I'm not very used to playing live, and particularly now it's got to this point, I'm probably a total tellbox.
If I'd been more used to this situation I might have considered more options. I wasn't 100% sure of the relative stacksizes, and the screen in front of me was off at this point, so I knew it was £17K for first, but I wasn't 100% sure what 2nd & 3rd were.
Williams had the biggest stack, but I wasn't very much shorter. Afterwards, I thought I should have brought up the possibility of doing a deal, but I just didn't think about it at the time, I was playing to win it. Don't know whether Williams & Devilfish would have gone for it, but it was never on the table anyway.
Stacks were ~20bb but since Williams was shoving wide, when I got KQs in the SB I felt my best chance was to call his btn shove.
He shows 55. Flop is 59x, turn 9. gg
2.15am, it's all over. I take 3rd for £5800 less £100 I gave as a tip to the dealing staff, plus 9 bounties for £4500, total £10,200 (~$16.5K).
I kinda thought that I was in with a chance of picking up a few bounties during PLO rounds if I stayed in until the middle of the tourney, but I didn't really think I would make the FT.
So glad I played it, the whole few days were excellent. Support from BQ was awesome, and my head was spinning during the skype chat that went on just afterwards. It was awesome to cash for 5 figures, and tbh it's brilliant to be able to pay out a big dividend to everyone that bought a piece of the action.
