Ok guys.

So I've mentioned im a newer player looking to learn as much as i possibly can about NLH. I've been on here, DC, through books, videos, you name it, and its helped... But I've run into a problem. I'm a very systematic learner, and I'm Afraid what has happened, is that I've tried learning way too many things at once, in no order, too quickly, including trying to grasp more complex concepts, without taking smaller steps and progressing toward more advanced topics. What I have now is a ton of information that sits on different levels and now I don't know where to go next in terms of trying to improve (let alone identifying my weaknesses, because I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong). Someone suggested I get a coach, but I can barely find enough people to get a house game together where I'm from. So to fix the problem, I'm just going to start from square one, and try to get my head back on the right track.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start or how I should progress through learning the game more efficiently?

I don't really get your point. If you already have all the knowledge you just have to play, to get experience keeping all your learnings in mind. You know, theory is great, it helps to improve a lot but the real experience of playing is extremely important too.

go back to the basics? re-read the beginner books and re-watch the beginner videos?

play tight and use the basics. as you get experience move some more plays slowly into your game.

Could it just be that you're something of a study-whore, who uses books, vids and all those other fine resources as an excuse not to sit down, put in some hands, and risk some $$$?

Maybe play 5000 hands at $2nl without once referring to a book etc.

With experience, the stuff in those books/vids is going to make more sense.

Poker is like brain surgery - you can't learn it all from a theoretical perspective. At some point you gotta pick up that drill and have a go for real.

You can't once people have replied.

I don't see any need for this to be deleted anyway tbh, it is on a topic that many beginners have issues with.

For (re-)learning the basics of winning poker I think you can find just about all you need for crushing microstakes in:
Sircuddles' guide: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/78...micros-430637/
Verneer's legendary 2010 thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/69...2010-a-676130/ (I highly recommend you download the compiled PDF file from: http://www.sendspace.com/file/x30lu4 )
The Concept of the Week articles: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/78...ntents-397190/

And try and avoid the common mistakes that are discussed in these 2 threads: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/69...-i-see-160541/

Hi - I kind of understand what you are saying...I have experienced the same issue sort of more of trying to tie in everything i know and applying it into my games though so slightly different.

I recently heard some great advice from someone though (can't rmember who and i would check but i am currently at work so i need to be as quick posting as possible!)

Start low so forget what you think you know and what you think you should be playing at. Bang on a 2NL game and friggin' stay there! Now let's say the first thing you want to learn is something like 'Reading the Board' or 'Identifying the Nuts' FORGET everything else you know, play in a simple fashion, tight and respectively, not bluffing, but focus on your one subject you have picked and learn it until you know it inside out - if you're struggling sit out and replay a hand you just did and work it out, get a pad and paper and write it down. Soon you will have learnt a new skill and at 2NL what's the worse that could happen! what ? you can't afford a can of coke anymore! fooooooorrrrget about it!
