Sorry, but I don't think play money skills transfer to real money. People act differently when the results matter to them, even if it's only 2nl.

That said, you don't have to be the best player in the world to beat 1c/2c. Give it a shot. If you deposit $50 and bust out, you lose what, the price of a cheap date?

Don't feel like searching this out since its going to appear all over the place. What does uNL mean? I've been on other poker forums but I've never seen this term before.

TY

EDIT: I've also read through the list of common abbreviations in the NL/PL forum and can't find it. So annoying cause I've already seen uNL in 3 archive posts.

µ is Greek for micro, but it's easier to type a small case u instead of the symbol. So in your example it refers to micro no limit.

I'm still riding the $50 free money deposit on FTP and I've been playing 2-4 tables of 10/5/2NL (in that order, they only introduced micros last week). I have accumulated $25 in bonuses plus around $5 in rakeback.

So yeah, I'd recommend it

So I have a few questions, don't know if they warrant their own thread so I'll ask them here:
I'm relatively new to online poker, played house poker with a few friends for years but never more than what was essentially play money for everyone.

Little bit of background: playing on Pokerstars for now, .02/.04 LHE tables.
I would like to hone my skills and play something like the .5/1 NL tables eventually and am planning on a long learning curve to get there. I want to make sure I don't start some bad habits now that will pose as obstacles down the road. So for my questions:

1. Is it normal to watch hands after folding and seeing what you would have made if you had stayed in. It bothers me to no end when for example I throw away J5o and the flop comes J5x and turn hits J. Should I just fold and move on without thinking. These situations make me want to play a huge range of hands and I end up being the stupid fish at the table.

2. I've been playing the .02/.04 LHE tables, but wanted to test myself a little at the .05/.10 LHE. I ended up multi-tabling a .02/.04 and .05/.10 for about 2 hours and did okay. Is this abnormal to play different stakes at the same time? I know it's not ideal, but is it insane?

3. As a beginner, I find it easier to play instinctively. I try to run through some odds when making decisions, but usually just confuse myself and end up folding. When I've played a "feeling" before I am 75% of the time right. Should I just get more hands in and move up before worrying too much about all the mathematical nuances of the game, or is it better to weigh all the options every hand at such small stakes?

Thanks for any help.

Search for "bankroll" management on this forum and on Google. Bankroll management is the most important thing you can learn as a n00b (I'm a n00b too). Although variance is most likely not as a big in LHE, it is still important to play stakes you can afford.

Learning to make correct decisions is important. If your instincts correspond to the correct decision given a particular situation, then you have poker talent and you should use it. That's why most players try to get reviews on their hands / sessions / stats: to verify that their line of thinking is right and doesn't have any major flaws.

Question regarding posting hands on the strat forums: During a session how do you guys keep track of tricky hands that you want to post here? I am usually multitabling 5NL and a hand might come up that causes me issues. After Ive made a decision on the hand I'm usually caught up on another table, and by the end of the session ive forgoten which hands i wanted to post and what the issues were. Do you guys instantly open up HH (im on PS) and copy paste the hand into say word for example, or do you make a note of it somewhere to come back to later on PT? Or am I just a forgetful moron and should just remember what/where it was?

I use HEM which has a great little in game HH viewer. Just open the previous hand and mark it for later review.

In PT you just have to remember the hand. I usually go over all hands where I won/lost more than 20bb.

µ is a greek letter, but the greek language doesn't use it for micro. Mathmeticians and the metric system invented that usage for the symbol [/nit]

Pokerstove uses a simple algorithm to rank hands for purposes of that slider: The hand's preflop equity against three random hands.

Thank you. I knew that, but just blasted through the reply, since it was getting a little late for me when I posted it. I just got all excited when there was something simple I actually knew the answer to.

We can't let CMAR get all the easy questions, he has multi-page essays on obscure topics to write.

Loose aggressive.

Playing a lot of hands and playing them aggressively.

Not a beginner style. Requires strong hand reading skills and good reads on the other players.
