any of you guitar players out there, i recently bought a guitar so advice would be helpful, should i get a floor stand or a wall hangers - any pros or cons of either?

any words of advice you could give me? [im a complete noob wrt guitar] i watch that justinguitar dude, is that enough for a beginner or should i go get lessons.

fwiw guitar is acoustic, the kind of music id be looking to play would be things like oasis/foo's etc

edit: i did remember some of you guys mentioning doing youtube videos and looked up who i thought it was and that was some head of hair lol - you know who you are

Personally, I don't use anything for my acoustic guitar, I just rest it against the wall and it has never fallen. My electric guitar is inside a really sturdy case because it's rather expensive.

I've only seen wall hangers used in guitar shops. I think a floor stand is safer, at least that's what I would get.

Regarding lessons, I honestly have no clue. I'm self-taught but my technique is far from perfect or correct for that matter. If it's just a hobby, I wouldn't waste money on lessons, you can learn just fine from reading tabs. If you want to learn guitar and music theory though...that's a whole 'nother story.

i like the fact that a wall hanger will free up some floor space for me and i wont be as likely to hit it when i stumble in drunk i just dont like the thought of it sitting up agains a wall either, my luck is it would fall or neck would warp, i also have some nieces and nephews running around the place who would be likely to knock it by accident

my thinking with some lessons would be i could get the basics down quicker and have them done properly without picking up any bad habits, i dont see myself going anywhere with it, just a hobby [i dont see a 25yo starting guitar and making a career from it ] if i could i would ldo

Crazy,

There are pros and cons to wall hangers. Pro, you save space, Con, you tend to sratch the hell out of the back of the guitar and idiots tend to walk into it (although they do this on a stand, you can move the stand out of the way).

I wouldn't bother with lessons to start. There is a starters series called "The Complete Guitar Player," and if you can stomach the cheesy music, it does give you a good basis to start from.

The most important thing to learn is keeping in time. Once you have that, the rest comes more easily.
I'd also suggest getting a book covering chords, as this will allow you to look up songs online, and be able to play them.

Good Luck, it's a great hobby.

That's the one Crazy, or one that looks very similar. The one I was thinking of was Russ Shipton's complete guitar player, but this might just be a modernisation with more current music. It written by the same bloke tho.
