Started playing again about a week ago to unlock this $50 bonus. Have done so and have rediscovered my spark for poker, will be happy to once again leave the cesspool that is 5NL.

Happy to see some old names I recognize have moved up - birdayy, Donna.. good for you guys

and hands..

Almost feel sorry for this guy.

I'm not really sure how to play this hand, villain was super nitty with like a 1.4% 3bet, I almost found a fold on the river but thought he could possibly have AK although his line screams AA.

I don't. Serves him right for calling a 3bet OOP as UTG opener with 55.

He's IP, still horrid call pre.
12-21-2013 , 01:10 AM
Ya, my mistake, but still a lolbad call.
12-21-2013 , 02:09 AM
call pre with 55 UTG vs Blind 3bet is standard.

Enjoy watching your win rate drain away.
12-21-2013 , 03:20 AM
Depending on stack depth there is decent profitability due to massive implied odds when there is a 3b vs a utg open.
12-21-2013 , 03:27 AM
It's a pretty easy fold without reads in all honesty.
12-21-2013 , 04:23 AM
lol, taking shots at gamma is ill advised

Implied odds + position. Maybe fold pre, idk I don't play 6M. FR it's definitely a fold pre UTG with 55

Small pocket pairs facing a raise, after opening in UTG, is a fold unless we're deep. They just don't play well enough postflop since you rarely flop equity, and you won't even know if you're going to be good on some 662r flop or something. Take in to account the amount of times you'll flop a set and people won't be paying you off in the scenarios that they have KK on A5x, or when they have AK and the flop comes T5xr, and it's easy to see why folding preflop is just best.

People at 5nl don't have a light 3-betting range versus UTG opens mostly, so they're polarised to strong hands which we don't do well against. If they don't include AK into their 3-betting range versus a UTG open, then we've only got 18% equity against their range preflop. If peoples ranges are as strong as I've assigned for a 3-betting range versus UTG open (QQ+), then I could presume their cbet percentage is going to be a lot higher than in normal pots, which means we'll be calling preflop just to fold postflop a good majority of time.

Why position might be helpful here, we have to think that the stack to pot ratio, along with villains range, would make it very difficult for us to utilise our position. If we're calling cbets in the hope we're good then we're being exploited in the times that villain has his stronger hands, and if we're calling cbets in the hope that villain checks a lot of turns then we're still giving them plenty of chances to catch up, meaning we might have to throw in a bet to fold out their equity, but of course by doing so we again become exploitable by allowing villain to cbet flop, and check turn to us knowing we'll be betting.

There might be the few times where you'll flop a set and get paid off, which helps your win-rate for lower PP's after being 3bet, but I'm pretty sure after a long sample size, lower PP's that have called versus a 3bet will be showing a negative win-rate.

In the end you probably lose less just by folding preflop, which is why I advise doing that.

Just my 2c's worth though.
12-21-2013 , 05:18 AM
We don't lose at all by folding preflop though because we wouldn't open if it wasn't +EV in the first place. Then folding is 0EV. Whereas calling a raise would be -EV. So we aren't losing on 55 by folding to a reraise. I think that's important to realise. We may not even be losing by calling the reraise but it can still be -EV compared to the most +EV way of playing them pre.

I agree with your post.
You probably just said what I was trying to say quicker and easier.

Possibly right, but this is a bankroll thread so isn't that what it's all about?
Anyway, I see lots of posts along the lines of 'think I played well but ran bad and ended up down' so people are thinking about how they played and not just the $$$.

He was PFR and aggressor, I expected him to barrel tbh.
Wasn't about to donk turn but might have raised it if he bet.
But then is TPTK good for 3 streets?
IP and with initiative I'd probably have barrelled 3 streets.

I'd disagree.

Of course if people are only 3-betting KK+, then flatting 55 is fine. If people have a decent amount of bluffs in their range 55 is a fold IMO. I'd much rather defend T9s than 55.

I know it may be an isolation spot, but i have no clue how to play off-suited unpaired hands like this OOP. Often it just feels like we isolate and end up check/folding a lot.

Interesting looking graph today. A ton of bad variance, which is good after running so hot lately.

h1: Standard? Gotta do a range construction here, no idea on villains range. Maybe Kc?
