Grinding 25nl with a Bankroll of $180? I'd start at 10nl (at least until you get back into the swing of things) especially if you haven't been around the games for awhile as they have gotten significantly harder. Good luck with it.

EV wise I should have been up 4 buy in's today. Instead up 1.5 or so.

Kept having people catch they're gut shot against me as well as people turning sets and two pairs in WTF spots.

Oh, I also think I'm going to have a break from cash games for a while. I'm doing decently at them but I'm sick of being hit and run. I think I got hit and run about, 4 times in 10 minutes last night. Not cool.

Thanks to a deep finish in a tournament my BR now stands at $574.00, was only $222.00 just like 2 days ago, $333.00 from tourney, but my cash game results have been doing well for my last few sessions and I'm putting in more volume/effort, come on people lets build those bankrolls!

Goal = BR $900.00++ by end of this month.

Wow, haven't updated in a while. A few weeks ago I moved from limit to no-limit. I'm already a relative beginner to poker as it is (started in late April). Was doing so-so at ultra-micro low-limit ($0.01/$0.02 NL), breakeven over 10K hands. A week or so ago I decided to move up to $0.05/$0.10, when some pointed out that play level was about the same (true, overall, I think), and collecting VPP was a lot faster (very much true).

Well, things started out OK, but then I had another round of losing a bunch of hands all-in (mostly premium hands like AA/KK/AK/QQ, but also some sets etc and getting drawn out on. Grrr).

I'm a beginner as it is, and I'm still really clueless about bet-sizing etc (probably should read CoTW more, play less <g>) - yet I still felt (possibly unjustifiably) like I was holding my own overall. But the massive downswing left my BR at under $100. Not good.

So I decided to do two things: First, I moved to fixed limit for a bit to stabilize. I started doing more studying etc of the NL game. Studying NL while playing FL doesn't work so well, so I added a second table. So I'm playing one table fixed, one table no-limit. And, I decided first and foremost to focus on position and playing tight, especially out of position.

Well, maybe it's just the upside to variance after the downswing, but focusing on position and tight play has paid off.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that my upswing started when I started listening to a song that a former girlfriend of mine used to like. She was waaaay younger than me, and I was about to relocate overseas, so we ultimately went our separate ways, but I still had this song in iTunes - and while I'm not really much of a hip/hop myself, I loved this song. And I started listening to it after learning that the artist (Nujabes, or his name, Jun Seba spelt backwards) had died....I've been listening to this song pretty much non-stop.

BR: $142 -> $281

Ohh I believe it and I'm not saying he couldn't do it I'd probably just want a little more of cushion for variance. But it's just my thought I hope he's successful with whatever he ends up doing.

finally getting my br sorted. Newbie to this thread. br is now at 175. Got 14 to come back on rake. Had it at 280 this morning but went on super tilt for first time in a week. Playing nl25 on rush. 2-4 tabling them. Playing about 1-1.5k hands a day. I know i am taking a huge gamble but nl10 is such a nitfest on rush. Also think the players are actually worse also. In every session so far i have had at least one person push all in with air on the river. Will post in two days with updates
06-08-2010 , 01:40 PM
Just had a pretty bad session. I must have lost about 3 buy-ins with AAxx. One of them was 3 way all in pre-flop, when btn raised, i'm in sb and flat with AAxx suited and bb 3bets, BTN calls and I 4bet. bb shoves, btn calls and I obviously call. bb has AAxx too, btn has some junk like T986 and makes 2 pair though I turned flush draw and never hit. Another was me with AAxx vs AAxx all in pre-flop and they hit a flush. I did start 10 tabling though which could have been a mistake but I eventually made some of it back.

Down about 2.5 buy-ins though which sucks but i'll give it a go in a bit. I didn't really tilt or even play bad. I just got a bit coolered and my AAxx hands didn't do so great.
06-08-2010 , 02:06 PM
I have my BR on Stars. Still have a boat-load of initial deposit bonus to clear.

With the change in rake at PS, am I better off moving right away to FTP, or should I stick with PS until my deposit bonus clears, then move?

Or should I just move up to higher stakes? <g>
06-08-2010 , 02:50 PM
^how much of ur bonus have you left to clear.
06-08-2010 , 02:52 PM
About $200

I'm having one of my blow up days. I ended up 10 tabling PLO, dropped about another 3 buy-ins. So down 5.5 for the day. Going to take a break and try again. I've been playing kinda bad and not running too good either. AAxx has been one of my killers of the day, I 3bet AAxx and flop comes AJT I bet flop, one person calls another shoves I got top set and make the call and they have KQJx crap and board doesn't pair sadly. Wish I ran as good as them. But i'm not going to play >6 tables, god knows how people 24 table PLO. I'm kind of life tilted too atm, not sure it's a good idea to be playing but i'll try put it aside.

If you're that tilted.. I might recommend either not playing.. or drop down to like 2plo and just have some fun with it.
06-08-2010 , 05:19 PM
Dropped another $15, lost a stack with JJxx when I stupidly called a 3bet and flop came QJ9 and got it all in 3 way vs KT and T8. I'm majorly life tilted atm and down over 7 buy-ins for the day, so tilting....

Those are the days you just have to walk away. Yesterday felt like that for me and I just quit for the day. If it's good enough for Phil Ivey it's good enough for me

Well I think I got about 2 buy-ins back. Still down about 5. I had a few sick hands, i'll just put them below. There was one guy who was a bit of a fish seemed to want to donate some money to me.

This hand was pretty sick. I flopped the boat and when villain pots it on the flop I decided to just flat as he could have Jx hands and let him fill up. As I was thinking that, I was thinking "wouldn't it be funny if another J comes" and sure enough it came on turn. Talk about polarised ranges, I shouldn't have called, it's unlikely he's going to do that with KK and worse.

Due to my stack size and being OOP I decided to not 3bet my AA this time round. It worked out as I flopped top set and villain had half a hand and on the turn he just has to run with his hand, a bit of a sweat for me. But had I 3bet it i'm not sure the hand would have played the same.

Same villain as above hand. Not sure what he's up to, maybe he just got completely tilted. I decided to put in a funky river bet, i'm not sure if it induced him to spazz out or maybe that was his plan all along if I potted it. Speaking of which, someone did a really interesting river bluff on me where they bet so much it looked like they weren't folding and then as I mucked the best hand they showed a bluff as it wasn't a bet for value (at least I hope not.) So I guess i'm up just over 3 buy-ins on that villain.

Just played a quick 580 hand session and won close to 1.5 BIs. The first 200 or so hands were pretty irrelevant, and nothing went my way. I was coming into the pots as the pfr and getting x/r or raised almost every time I cbet, so I tightened up and almost got back to even.

After that I added 3 more tables to make it 9, and the cards started to come my way. I called this really loose guy from the SB w/ 22 and the flop came 2QQ and I ended up stacking him on the river, he turned over KQ for a bit of a cooler. I x/c'd the flop/turn then lead the river and he shoved over the top, too bad he only had abt $6. But that was my only big hand of the session, made the rest from taking pots down on the flop or turn.

I'm glad to be back playing again, and I only need 154 (had to edit, I just looked at it) vpp for another $10 stellar reward from stars. I'm picking up a lot of vpps with the new rake system, but I'm not sure if I'll be moving to FT or not.
06-08-2010 , 08:27 PM
Kinda debating moving over to FTP from Pokerstars after the recent update of the rake structure.

Things to consider..

I'm Australian. If I want to spend any FTP's on electronics I cannot, where as Pokerstars has Electronics for Australians.

I have rakeback on FTP. With a freeroll for high rakers once a month.

I was planning to deposit $1.5k at the end of the year and attempt to grind Supernova from 25PLO.

I have a job/life so the above might not be achievable, though I'd like to definitely try.

What should I do? I can move to FTP for the time being and back to Pokerstars when I'm ready to grind the supernova challenge I set myself. Or I can stay at pokerstars and try to grind through the added rake.
06-08-2010 , 08:34 PM
What's this I keep reading about rake structure at Stars? One thing i've noticed lately is I can bet weird amount like 27c whereas before I was restricted to betting by multiples of the sb.
