The funny thing is my desire to stick around is kinda inverse to the amount stuck. There is no difference between stuck $5k or $7k but stuck $1 I must win!!!!!!!!!

How do I stop?

Do I need a new brain?

The game is amazing.

Also, since your threads have given me so much joy over the years, if you would be interested in a curated Midwest beer package please pm me and I will arrange to send you some local stuff.
I'm great at this EXCEPT when playing pit games a couple of times a year with friends for bullshit stakes when drinking a lot. I can be down 40 dollars playing 10 dollar a hand blackjack and I'll be pissed off. Which of course is moronic.

You just need to be able to pull back from the situation and think about it logically. 6 months from now are you gonna remember if you won or lost on November 3rd? Hell no. So just focus on playing well. You can't control the cards. If you're a winning player you get the money in the end.

Also realize what you're doing costs you money. Most people do what you do. They play way longer when stuck despite playing way worse when stuck. It's totally backwards. What Limon said is also correct- if you're comfortable at the stakes you play it's way easier. Some grinder kid who needs to win this month to pay his bills is going to live and die with every session which is really bad.

This is such a sick thread.

Thanks for taking the time to host your fireside chat.

Based on what I've read, your archetype is what keeps the live ecosystem healthy. Wish we had more of it and less "squeeze every penny out of these drooling idiots I am playing with and zero regard for the health of the game" types alas poker is predatory and thats probably never going to happen.

Also, your quote about poker being one of the best hobbies and worst jobs is all time.

How long do you think live "public" casino poker has and what do you think the solution is to even attempt to keep it alive? 10 years?

More and more games are moving to private or semi-private as people who play as a hobby realize its no fun playing against others who can't be bothered to interact or various other reasons. Do you think the game goes back to how it was when there were road gamblers and a bunch of backroom bar games, home games, etc?

Live public poker will always be around but it’s just gonna get smaller and smaller. Rake higher and higher and fish fewer and fewer. Prohibitions will be lifted in many places and cause small booms but they will dry up quick as basically live bots swarm in from around the globe like locusts. Private poker will basically be comprised of fish/hosts/and “props” who the host puts in. The days of the stay in one place, have a normal ish life and make 150k++ a year independent poker pro is basically coming to an end.

My favorite stream was the LATB era wtih JCW, Brandon 2 hats, Nicole, Harry, The Hammah etc.

I'll watch bigger games but, I don't play 200/400/800/1600/3200 with an ante vs Mr. Beast and Ryan Garcia, so it's not all that valuable to me. I do play midstakes, so watching a 5/10 game and seeing everyone's cards helped a lot. It really captured the zany sitcom vibe that LA cardrooms can have and that was a lot more fun and interesting to me.

Any updates or good stories on that cast of characters?

Sick thread!

Limon, I'm a long time lurker and big fan. Your old thread here on 2+2 was pure gold, just like the 2k thread of dgaf. I'm happy you are back for an AMA. I agree with your Poker philosophy and the way you look at the game. I try to be a good sportsman for the game, being always friendly, drinking, joking, giving action to the right people and not sucking every cent of EV from the game like some dumb antisocial morons do nowdays. Poker was a nice side income for me for the last 10 years despite not being a very good player. I guess I'm good at social skills, networking and hustling. This all may surprise you, cause I come from Europe lol.

Here my question:

The downfall of public Poker is very real here in Europe. We have always had very high rake to begin with and my local casino game is getting worse day after day. Almost all the VIP have moved to private games, and the casino games are filled with more and more antisocial parasites nits that make for a very boring and unfun Poker experience. Thanks to my past (I hosted a private game for a couple of years) I have good contact to most of the private games host in the area and I could have a seat everywhere I want. The players are way looser and worse than Im Casino, but the rake is very high too (all private games here have 5% uncapped rake, Casino nit fest games have a 10% cap 10€). If you were in my situation where would you prefer to play for some side income?

Keep up this good thread and sorry for the bad english!

Peace!

Need to know more about this. You two made a great team during the pre-HCL days.

You are saying, since 2020, no one in the poker world has heard from her or knows her whereabouts?

1st: I think european poker players are fine and great, WHEN THEY ARE IN EUROPE! lol

2. the ideal situations are to either A. organize a semi-private type game inside the casino where you and some people you know just show up at the same time and lock seats so the initial lineup is fun and good. or B. Get one of the private game hosts to give you a rake back deal or "put you in" based on some ground rules you can live with.

I used to be a big VIP there when Mike was the bartender before covid (and his passing). He would make people get up to give me a seat! lol. I booked a lot of stuff for Nino and mike and the staff. Those days are long gone and im just a regular pleb there now. it has gone a little "corporate" but the food and vibe are still really good just not GREAT like they used to be.

i hope you're joking about this because that is a incomprehensibly disrespectful and a complete ****ing douche move. if you're not joshing, i hope you declined to take other people's seats (or you're also a complete ****ing douche).

Remember a story you wrote a long time ago about a regplayer (julien maybe?) that made a call on the river and proceeded to negotiate a chop before showdown. Then showed down something like q-high against a k-high. Hope you know what Im talking about.

That story always made me curiuos to know more about that player. You probably implied that it was a pretty special character. Do you have any more stories about him or any information at all?

at dan tanas years ago celebrities and hollywood executives would send their assistants to hold seats. these idiots would clog up the bar for regulars having dinner.

his name was julien. hes broke now and plays micro stakes. he used to be flush with cash and seemed like a pre-dan blizarian hollywood "ed hardy" pimp of sorts. We once got it all in pre in a big pot, about 13k, my AA v. his KK. he said lets run it 5 times, i was like ok it was 3am and he was the only reason the game was going. There were cards everywhere and after it was all said and done he lost every run. He stared at all the boards for like 10 minutes then tried to flip the table over. but casino tables are super heavy and held to the ground with wires and **** so he could only tilt it and chips slid everywhere.
