1.In regards to benefits - those benefits cost money, they're not free. When you look at a paycheck of someone who works for a company they take out an insane amount of money for taxes, health insurance, retirement accounts, social security, etc. Your take home might be 55-60% of your total pay - granted some of this money goes to retirement accounts but not being able to touch that money for 20+ years isn't good.
weird way to tell the world you cheated on your taxes

Ahh, the Paradise Poker days from '99-'02 before the poker boom. I remember playing 5/10 LHE and thinking it was the biggest game around, lol. Brings back memories!

Oh when I started playing this was when 1/2 nl was their biggest game in like 2005. I started playing in late 2004 or early 2005.

The 5 cards you were using lighting on fire when you stacked someone was nice too.

Did and thouroughly enjoyed the thread thank you!

Cause poker is just a vehicle to get money from their pocket into your pocket and higher stakes prolly have not enough fiish + not overolled enough I assume?

Alright. Real question and I sort of already know the answer. I play 40-80+ underground limit mix stuff as a hobby, where the hobby is winning money.

I probably play twice a month where I can play unlimited time and I quit at a normal time when winning and can’t for the life of me pry my ass out of the seat when losing.

The funny thing is my desire to stick around is kinda inverse to the amount stuck. There is no difference between stuck $5k or $7k but stuck $1 I must win!!!!!!!!!

How do I stop?

Do I need a new brain?

The game is amazing.

Also, since your threads have given me so much joy over the years, if you would be interested in a curated Midwest beer package please pm me and I will arrange to send you some local stuff.

2.I agree in regards to hourly - it's hard to truly get more than like 20-25 hours in a week unless you have no life

3.Poker is sedentary, but you should be working out/lifting weights regardless of your lifestyle. If you're not you're going to be a mess anyway you look at it. Get up, work out, then go about your day.

4.That mindset is personal and applies to all jobs/careers.

The one thing poker has over most of the population is freedom to play when you want - working for someone is not the way to live your life under their thumb being their bitch. I don't play professionally anymore but am in an industry now where I work for myself - freedom/time is the most important thing we have in our lives. I work when I want, I make money in my kitchen while spending time with my family. I also pay very little in tax - some write offs are overstated, but the audit rate is extremely low. I make OK money right now (140-180k) so I'm not rich, but I wouldn't work for someone unless I could make 300k+. The time tradeoff and true post expense money in my pocket makes my income better imo.
Of the many professional poker players I've talked to over the last 20 years in casinos and card rooms across the USA, it is hard to think of any that didn't hate it after a few years (or a few months). People who are not playing professionally (i.e. they aren't depending on poker to pay their bills, they could go on a massive downswing and it wouldn't effect their life financially, etc.)? LOTS of them still love it.

That is pretty messed up. But in the end when Wan (he said it's

up than him. His own mom. He called his mom and said he was dying of cancer and she said "so what, why are you telling me this?".

Well that kinda explains where he got his attitude from.

i honestly dont really know or care how much im up or down but i did at one point in my life playing at comfortable stakes helps a lot. you have to just expand your view of the whole thing, the universe doesn't know youre not in a session right now, theres no difference between going to the toilet between hands or going on a months vacation, from the 1st hand you ever play until the last hand you ever play its one big session. the weird part about getting better and better at the mental side of poker is with each advancement poker becomes more pointless.
