i was not, if anything i was underselling just how awful the average player was in what is today considered high stakes
and yes, a lot of the espn televised poker was under the premise that if you "watch the pros on tv and you too will become a good player"
again, i'm not joking - it was an era where people got exposed to and "learned the game" from watching tv which highlighted action poker highlights, people watched on tv and were like "wow he is so good there he got that bluff through" and then they go sit down at nl500 and try to bluff a guy with a vip of 9
