that episode sucked.

granted the episode immediately preceding it was the best I can remember, so I'm not too worried.

The bread pudding in Venice Beach tastes awesome. I actually met that girl at work in that store (more like a window actually) and she is really hard working and rugged. I recommend the chocolate chip and the blueberry. The bread puddings are scooped as would an ice cream. They don't look like the bread puddings that you see in Las Vegas buffets.

SMH at her going to San Francisco with a totally different formula (typical restaurant type setting in a low traffic location) when she already had the perfect formula in Venice Beach.

Her pudding place was in a building in which at least a dozen different eateries shared the same kitchen but also had part of that kitchen that was exclusively theirs. Their exclusive space was probably less than 10 by 10. And the eating place outside, which had umbrellas, was shared by everyone who operated in that kitchen.

Come to think about it, that collective kitchen is actually a very good idea given that there are lots of entrepreneurs/chefs out there that could benefit from the low buy-in that comes with the shared facilities (both in terms of where the food is done and where it is consumed).

I agree.

I didnt like the Mark/Lori feud, as much as I dislike Lori, Cuban was over the top.

The bread pudding lady made me really want to see the whole pitch without editing. They made her look clueless and I doubt she was -- 30k in bread pudding sales in first month of a retail location seems legit.

PetPaint's site went down last night during SharkTank. At the time, I thought Cuban might have been too harsh on him -- and to be fair, the company already had 12k likes on Facebook by the time of the episode -- but that site absolutely can't have the site go down during the show.

BellyBuds: I think they got exactly what they wanted. They got on TV and didn't get a deal.

Awesome: Cuban schooling Lori on the wedding photos. He really can't abide dumb sales ideas.

Robert is such a waste of space. Even moreso in this episode than normal.

I can't agree with that. Cuban calling Lori out was worth the entire hour alone.

since i started watching the show i've wondered how important the shark tank is for the contestants. can everyone we've seen on the show easily get to pitch to other VCs or can the shark tank sometimes be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?

LOL at the photography guy. turns down $500k valuation but accepts $150k valuation. Kevin owned him so hard.

he owned robert pretty hard tho, props for that. basically straight up said he'd rather have lori for $50k than robert for $100k.

(just kidding, that was also ******ed)

Never really understood the Robert hate. Ya, he's not as interesting and doesn't do as many deals as some of the others but he is not as big of tool as O'leary is. And I like that he seems to have a really strong moral compass and isn't afraid to get emotional sometimes.

kevin is great for the show because he's a tool. robert really has no role aside from balancing out the strong personalities a bit. though i'll admit the disrespect he gets from some of the entrepreneurs is pretty funny.

I think if he counters for 51% she still would have done it too. I'm surprised he didn't, he could have just sat back and let her do all the work, like you said.

All the deals on every week are lowballing the value because they have them stuck in the shark tank!

I wonder why they don't also show 'Shark Tank - uncut' might need a small amount of editing but it would be very cheap content for them and I suspect would gather quite a following and be a lot more useful.

Maybe someone could pitch the idea.

heck, unedited pitches could also become an MBA curriculum. HBS makes lots of money off their cases

One thing I have learned from watching this show over the years is that it's absurd how delusional 90% of these small business owners are. From having no clue on accurate valuations to dumping in hundreds of thousands of dollars into products that people aren't buying.

There might be a slight selection bias here - both on the entrepreneurs and on the producers side. If you are a good entrepreneur you don't really need the shark tank. A 10 minutes TV add sure helps, but still, you have access to VCs, banks, etc.. On the producers side, I think they believe that people like these goofy pitches like draw-me-a-cat, paint-my-dog, etc.. tbh I would much rather see only pitches like the smart phone key app and the MBA guys running a website for recruiting high school athletes. That's just me though, having 4 pitches a night from MBA types might get a bit boring for the general audience.

Very true. Shark Tank is a television how who's main purpose is to attract an audience and sell advertising. The show is about pitches but that us not the purpose of the show. If they have amazing businesses and great pitches that drive away viewers, the show fails.

So we must take everything we see on Shark Tank with a big grain of salt. It's not real life, it TV!

I can't imagine any small business turning down an opportunity for a free 10-minute exposure to 6 million people (or rather television sets).

I don't think it is free.
I think they have to give 5% of their company to the producers of the show.
The Shark Tank Quote
11-12-2013 , 01:34 PM
they got rid of the 5% equity thing.
