This is actually incorrect. The prices offered have no effect on the fee betfair charges which is typically 5% (less whatever discount rate and premium charges you incur) on net winnings.

You can figure out the fee via their annual report, but please stop misrepresenting the math of exchanges.

I love bitcoin as a premise, but as long as it is a volatile market it won't ever see major adoption. If the price ever stabilizes I could see huge amounts of people converting

I understand the whole volatility scaring people away, but surely price stability wouldn't drive anyone to Bitcoin by itself.

In fact, the volatility has probably driven more people to it than otherwise would have.

The volatility has been dropping over time, and could approach the levels of major currency pairs in a few years. That said, a lot of people don't like the volatility of the major currency pairs that much either.

How volatile is Bitcoin relative to gold and other currencies?

For comparison, the volatility of gold averages around 1.2%, while other major currencies average between 0.5% and 1.0%.

Anyone have any experience using BitCoinFog and is it worth the 1%-3% fee on every deposit?

For starters there isn't even a global remittance provider.

That's exactly the reason why many people use bitcoin. If there were a global remittance there would be fees, taxes, exchange rates and a lot of other things to worry about. People who use bitcoin definitely aren't looking for all of that.

This comment makes no sense. Here is a good article detailing what infrastructure people are looking for to come with "money".

That is the infrastructure people look for when they try to find their bank of choice. But again some people do not look for or want that in bitcoin. A lot of people use bitcoin because of it's privacy and anonymity and because they don't want to have to attach their name to it.

People give up safety and security to use bitcoin.

Really interesting idea I saw on r/bitcoin, I'm not gonna link the guy's proof of concept and I don't think that POC will take off, but here is the idea:

Imagine on reddit or whereever your vote is weighted by how many bitcoins you can sign. You don't transfer you just prove you own those bitcoins as you vote. If cleverly utilized (and there are quite a few hurdles) it can be a powerful way to make votes more legitimate.

huh. why are rich peoples votes more legitimate?

It's not more legitimate, however you have to compare it to something. VS the current system which has effectively no stakes, it is much more resistant to attacks. For example on reddit right now to get something upvoted to the top has significant advertising value, and can be done. This makes it much more expensive to do that. Because the sum of wealth held by poor people can actually rival a rich adversary.

Where is the best place to buy bitcoins instantly without using one of those exchanges where you have to go make a deposit into someone's bank account? I have Coinbase and Circle but these have limits and aren't really instant after you go over the limit.

You can also use localbitcoins for escrow if ever you decide to look for a buyer/seller at bitcointalk.
