I'll go out on a limb and say it's definitely going to happen during OPS. The DDOSers aren't going to keep hitting them almost every weekend but then spare them during their biggest tourney series.

Yup.

It's getting old seeing all these people gripe out the sites for problems caused by DDOS attackers. People should be calling up their local politicians and chewing them out for doing such a piss poor job of getting online poker back in the US. They're the real problem as far as I'm concerned. Not Merge, WPN, or Bovada.

While I agree that that's the best route in the grand scheme of things, there's a reason why Merge has these DDOS attack problems far more than any other site out there. I think it was pointed out earlier in this thread by a potential DDOSer himself that their lackluster security/network is to blame.

Its odd but I haven't had a merge related DC in since the last OPS DDoS attacks.

Lucky? I guess.

WPN has had just as many, if not more, disconnection problems as Merge. Bovada had to cancel all their tournaments last Tuesday, as well. The WPN thread is identical to this one. WPN players are "cashing out to go to Merge" and Merge players are "cashing out to go to WPN" because of all the problems.

That DDOS attacker is an employee who is being paid to do this. He isn't just some random guy. I suspect this guy is working for the Department of Justice, or land based casinos who are attempting to keep online poker from coming back. He's merely posing as a hero who is pretending to be "protecting players" to hide is motives. This is about $$$$$$$$. PERIOD.

The DOJ tried to shut down Bodog/Bovada and failed. Now, they're relying on the only tactic they have left to use, DDOS attacks that discourage players from playing and destroy the site in the process.

This happened to me with a set of 12 SNGs back in November, and I still haven't gotten my $ back.

So if you leave you computer on practice mode and come back and the page refreshes it can take you to real money without your knowledge. This happened to me last night without me knowing but I was able to recreate the issue this morning. Called support and talked to a rep and their manager. According to them the software works "perfectly". They have no intentions of refunding my lost funds and blamed this on me for not checking to make sure I was playing practice. At no time did I ever choose to play real money.

Ahhh good to know, I had no idea that a handful of other sites were just as bad.

AJFenix was on Chicago Joey's latest livestream about the American Poker Awards, and mentioned being offered an acct with money already in it and some "software" to help him. I dk what that exactly that entails but sounds a little shady, and AJ thought so as well, and declined the offer. I don't play here anymore after being restricted to 2 tables but thought I'd pass this warning on to the rest of you.

I was under the impression the difference between play money and real money was the $ sign on real money tables. Just sayin...

Interesting. The name AJFenix sounded familiar. Looked up his stats and saw he was on Absolute Poker back in the day. I remember always seeing his name at the cash tables. Played with him a bit, but I was mainly in the tournaments.

Thanks for posting.

No, I don't think so. I have accounts with both. It's been fine all week for me on WPN.

It depends on which ISP's are hit with a DDOS attack. Some Merge users here are reporting no problems, as well. It's the same with WPN.

You're one of the lucky ones.

No just go to their website - you get there hitting the sports button in the main lobby. The 'free' bets are not like normal bets when you bet ?10? to win ?9? and get ?19? back, you will only get ?9? (the portion won).

Thanks! However, we have to make a deposit for promo and with a pending withdrawal that would not be possible

DDoS attacks are so punishing to websites because most internet users victim blame the company for being attacked. They don't understand that most internet companies are unable to defend themselves against large scale attacks.

That is correct. I played several hands of "practice" before leaving for dinner. I did not close out of the session, and when I returned home the page automatically refreshed. I did not notice that this happened, but when it refreshed, it actually moved me from practice to real money. At no point did I choose to play real money. I then played two hands of real money, not realizing I was no longer on practice. I was not paying attention to the balance because I never left the practice table. There is a defect in the software that needs to be addressed.

This is an interesting story, to say the least. But it sounds like it's such a unique issue that only Merge would be able to resolve it, most likely not in your favor. I've not heard of too many guys who 'practice' at online casino games and the likelihood you could convince them to refund your account is either Slim or none, and I'm pretty sure Slim died a few years ago.

It wasnt until this morning, when I was able to recreate the issue, that I realized what happened.

I am well aware that they are not going to refund the bets. Just want others to know that if you leave your PC on practice and the page refreshes when you return, there is a chance that it will take you to real money without you noticing.
