When I pushed about why it wasn't the full value of $134, they just said because they weren't refunding the tournament fee portion. I kept telling them that the value of the ticket is $134 and not $125, but they insisted the decision had already been made.
I'm not commenting on "right or wrong" here, just offering a possible explanation. They're probably eating the entire $125 as it is w/o any reimbursement for the unused ticket and at a certain point it just becomes economically unfeasible; even though $9 seems like a pittance in a way, its actually over 7%. If you multiply that out by numerous accounts, it adds up quick on the departamental ledger shall we say.
Whereas its plain to see the argument that the ticket's worth $134, the reality is "was" worth $134 and now is "worth" absolutely nothing (much like Lock dollars technically are worth a dollar, realistically are worth nothing, but can actually be redeemed with a little effort for 20 cents.) They coulda let you keep the ticket you won for you to view, but you still wouldn't be able to actually use it.
