1/12 cashout requested
1/23 tracking info texted to me
1/24 check received

I took it to the bank today and they couldn't decide if it was foreign or not, then gave me a collections form with a $25 fee that said it could take 4-10wks to process.

After reading the last few pages this morning I shouldn't have let them do that

I'm just so used to BlackChip going directly to the debit card that I figured the check thing would be a breeze too...

I have a much larger cashout from yesterday on it's way now and I think I'm going to get another bank account elsewhere that has the same branch mentioned on the check from the East and see if that goes better in a few weeks.

Took it to the teller on Friday and it took 45 seconds to deposit. Didn't even flinch or say anything about it being a foreign check. Check cleared this morning...benefits of having a major bank I suppose

I also notice some variability between branches of the same bank-- at the one close to my apartment they'll take it but sometimes give me some funny looks. If I go to the branch closer to the university with a huge foreign student body they've never given me any trouble.

requested check a week and a half ago, it was approved within 48 hours and I received a check no more than three days later. check cleared my account within 48 hours. not too shabby.

additional detail: the atm would not accept the check so I had to go into the teller

You guys who think that money showing up in your account means the check cleared are going to be in for a rude surprise one day.

Hi

Can you explain how to tell when a foreign check has successfully cleared?

Do I need to call the bank and ask, look it up online, or can I view the history via the ATM?

I currently do not use online banking. My options are limited to transactions via the ATM or bank teller.

Please describe the recommended method for these types of checks.

AFAIK you would have to call your bank and get someone higher up than the person who answers the phone. There should be a separate department to track the progress of checks.

It can take upwards of 2 weeks for a check to bounce. If it does the bank will deduct the amount of the check and then tack on any fees associated with it, regardless of your balance.

Anyway to get bovada to give you a free wu/mg transfer?

Hate sweating the international checks and wondering if they're going to bounce

Just a few questions:

1. Does getting smaller amounts help? For example, $300, $400.

2. Is there a thread (I couldn't find it) or post that shows best banks to worst? It would be nice to compare where I'm at with that list.

The best way is have enough in your account so that if deposited check comes back up to 3 weeks after depositing, the bank can take the deposited amount + their $35-$50 bounced check fee, and your account still has a positive balance. That way you will not get additional overdraft fees and your own checks bouncing. Nothing more irritating than finding out your $5 Starbucks coffee debit card purchase will end up costing you closer to $50.

smaller amounts or more frequent checks? most give you 1 per month for free and then cost for additional...

Another max check from the north arrived today. It has a completely different company name and bank used then previous one that arrived week and a half ago. Is that pretty standard they switch banks often?

No, but MG is reasonable for small amounts.

Obviously smaller amounts are going to get less scrutiny then a max check, generally speaking.

We don't discuss banks here as to not draw any attention. Doesn't really matter anyway, as the issues arise as a result of the staff not the bank, in general.

I only came to this thread because cashouts are normally so fast and I usually have my check in hand by now. It's a little scary seeing all the issues people are having with bounced checks, etc. but I guess it makes sense why cashouts are taking longer than usual now.

Hopefully this is just a bump in the road and not a major issue for them.
Update...

Requested: January 15th
Approved: January 15th
Tracking #: January 24th
Received: January 27th

Max check, came from the west, and deposited with no issues so far.

Deposited a check on 1/17. It bounced on 1/22. Is it standard for the bank to mail me the bounced check, or is that something I'll need to go into the branch and ask for?
