I'm never setting a foot in the Venetian again. This guy does not deserve mine or any other poker players business.

Xpost from PL thread.

Just saw this on a tweet from the PPA. Venetian is now offering sportsbetting "and technology joins sports perfectly with the Cantor Race and Sports Book™ app for all smartphones, tablets and PCs. This allows you to wager anywhere in Nevada."

Is there any reason behind all of this rather than him feeling threatened and him losing business? Like why not him get his own site going.

Here is the article from Forbes on Adelson http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanva...line-gambling/

After reading that article, I'd say he really needs to be slammed for letting Cantor operate an online service at The Venetian.

Supposedly he had a relative (not sure if it is blood or by marriage) who had a gambling problem and Adelson is supposedly looking out for them.

Hey Sheldon, just because your relative can't handle it doesn't mean no one can handle it.

If there are poker pros still playing at the Venetian they need to be outed and shamed. Wake up you dolts.

If Adelson really cared about people's health he would strive to have smoking banned in American casinos instead of doing nothing. If he cared about people's health, he wouldn't be trying to get Macau law about smoking in casinos changed to allowing smoking.

This is the same guy that spent 100 million dollars to try and get a Republican into office last election and that got him nothing. He can spend another 100 million trying to fight online gambling, but its not going to work. There is too much money to be made from the taxation of online gambling. Its really that simple. And with Vegas and Jersey already in the process of offering online gambling to its residents.... I'm afraid Adelson will fall on deaf ears. He is a lone wolf when it comes to this topic. Everyone, and yes even the dumbest of politicians can see right thru his "for the kids protection" mumbo jumbo.

This is so on point - all that money spent on Gingrich and Romney that he could have spent helping children if that was where his true interests lay (lied? laid??)

I think Adelson should retire and enjoy himself! Travel the world and spend his days donating to Kiva, etc ...

Why isn't live gambling legal everywhere?

Is this guy president?

Adelson rode Gingrich till the wheels fell off even though it was clear to the entire population of the world he had no chance of beating Romney let alone Obama.

The chances of Adelson getting a bill "passed" in the face of the entire casino industry is laughable.

Thread closed. Get back to work.

^^^ Those primary and general elections weren't decided in Congress. They were decided by the popular vote (or, in a few states during the primaries, caucuses), where Adelson's main weapons were media relations and advertising. He has additional weapons to bring to our fight, unfortunately.

Our fight is largely about getting politicians to support us. You can expect Adelson to do some very heavy-duty lobbying. We could even see litmus tests on this issue, where Adelson wouldn't donate to these politician's campaigns unless they were on board for this issue. Money is the lifeblood of campaigns.

We'll also expect to see lawmakers with talking points, expert witnesses, more anti-poker editorials, and who knows what else.

Close all the other threads. Get to work! That would be more reflective of the urgency of the situation, IMO.

Alright talking head lets play.

First of all "you" aren't doing anything. The PPA is irrelevant in this fight. The casino industry alone is responsible for bills being passed in Nevada and Delaware and it's the people who stand to profit from online gaming who will get poker legislation passed. That's reality son. Now I get it you have this little lobbying group that's making money for you and a board of directors but we both know you are irrelevant.

Am I right that Pokerstars has been your number one contributor and they were left out of both Nevada and New Jersey which shows you had no pull in the makings of these bills. LOL

It's Adelson against the entire Casino industry. Yes he's going to flap his jaw and make threats but at the end of the day his influence does not exceed that of the entire casino industry and that is why this makes me yawn. You make me yawn.

When I said get back to work I mean get back to playing poker. There's not a single politician in America who is being influenced by tweets from a few thousand poker players. Money talks in this country. BS runs the marathon and you're a shoe-in for the Kenyan national team.

FYP

From the Venetian website:

"And technology joins sports perfectly with the Cantor Race and Sports Book™ app for all smartphones, tablets and PCs. This allows you to wager anywhere in Nevada."

Huh?? I thought Adelson was against online gambling?? Or does he want it only for himself??

-------------------

From the Forbes article, quoting Adelson:

"“My moral standard compels me to speak out on this issue because I am the largest company by far in the industry and I am willing to speak out. I don’t see any compelling reason for the government to allow people to gamble on the Internet and nobody has ever explained except for the two companies whose special interest is going to be served if there is gaming on the Internet, Caesars and MGM.”

Geez, where to start? First of all - largest company by far in the industry?? Really? Bigger than either Caesars or MGM, both of which have far more casinos than Adelson does. Or am I missing something here?

Moral standards? Could somebody please explain to me how owning and profiting from land based casinos is more "moral" than owning and profiting from internet betting?

His final claim is also laughably false. Sure, MGM and Caesars want internet gambling dollars. So do the states who would tax it, the people who want to play, Indian casinos who want a piece of the action, other gaming interests, etc.

Seems to me that Adelson needs to buy a clue....
