In this month's Bluff (May) there is a really good article about Adelson's hypocritical stand and I am going to cut the pages out to send to my Representative who is a cosponsor of the House bill. I suggest other 2plus2 members do likewise.

Sorry I couldn't find a link to the article.

Hopefully this finally gets a response from Representative Cleaver who seems to care so little about his constituents that he doesn't answer emails.

Hi, Doc. Here's the link for the article. It was done by Steve Ruddock. I hadn't seen it before. Thanks for the heads-up. It's a good one.

Sheldon Adelson Casino Fined Again for Under-aged Gambling

Quote:
Adelson has often espoused the view that there are not adequate safeguards in place to keep under-aged gamblers from gaining access to online gaming sites.

The Sands received an $85,000 fine Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the fifth such penalty in the last five years. The fine encompasses six incidents in which minors were able to gamble illegally for a time
.....

The six instances of under-aged gambling occurred between June, 2013 and January of this year. Two of those involved gamblers as young as 17 and another found a 19-year-old also drinking alcohol while shooting craps.

Sands Casino has now paid $305,000 in fines for allowing youngsters to gamble on the casino floor since its 2009 grand opening.

Maybe PA should ban live gambling and just allow the safer alternative, online gambling.

Mostly joking there, just mostly

Wow, $85,000. If Sheldon Adelson farts, it's worth more than $85,000. Seriously, how is this worthy of being posted here? There was a thread specifically created for all things Sheldon Adelson but I guess we are done using it?

It's very fashionable in this thread to trash Sheldon Adelson, call him a hypocrite, hurl insults, obscenities and various colorful metaphors, but has it occurred to you folks that Adelson's anti online gambling stance is actually very smart business?

Caesar's Entertainment, probably Sheldon Adelson's biggest competitor, is on the ropes - teetering right on the abyss of filing for bankruptcy. A few financial analysts and bankruptcy attorneys have already gone on record stating that Caesar's is already in the process of going bankrupt.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29...otice-1450552/

The one thing that would virtually, overnight, rescue Caesar's from collapse would be the sudden legalization of internet poker all across the United States. In an instant Caesar's would go from being a financial basket case to once again being a strong competitor to Adelson and his empire.

So it makes good business sense for Adelson to keep his boot pressed firmly into Caesar's neck - don't even let Caesar's get up off the ground. That's the reason Sheldon Adelson is willing to spend "whatever it takes" to keep internet poker from being legalized. All this talk about protecting children and "... gambling gone too far" is a smoke screen disguising the real reason for Adelson's stance. This is just the way the big boys play the business game ... they try to kill each other the same way we poker players try to kill each other at the poker table. As Michael Corleone put it in the Godfather "It's nothing personal, just business."

That is what makes it hypocritical.

The best thing that could happen to poker is for Caesars to go out of business and its assets to be sold to Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sands Corp could take over the WSOP as well as Caesars online poker presence. We would finally feel safe at WSOP events (walking to the parking lot, leaving our laptop in the room, etc) and Sheldon Adelson would ensure that we could finally play online poker in all 50 states. I can only imagine the poker boom that would ensue.

There's a reason that Sheldon Adelson is the wealthiest person in the industry (by far) and it's because he understands market demands and knows how to meet those demands by delivering products that vastly exceed customer expectations. Let's be honest, he probably wouldn't be interested in purchasing all those crappy Caesars properties but we should be considered honored if he would just take a moment from his busy day to consider purchasing the WSOP brand and transforming it into something truly great.

Do we have a unified hashtag for discussion Adelson's actions on Twitter? I tweeted about my personal boycott of the Venetian and tagged their casino's account (@VenetianVegas) in it, but didn't have a hashtag that we can try to make trend or group our posts about this nonsense together.

The only promising news re: Adelson is that he's 80yrs old. If he were 50-60 the world would be in real trouble. This will all work itself out over the next 5-10 years.

No, it won't because Adelson isn't the only billionaire willing to throw his money around.

What is he supposed to do if one of the many teenagers that are allowed to pass through on foot decide to put a 20 in a machine and push the button?

I just saw a rec player in a Vegas casino wearing a shirt that I wish Pokerstars had thousands of sitting in a warehouse somewhere. It was for the NAPT at Venetian and had the Pokerstars and Venetian logo on it. Would be awesome for everyone to have one of those to show how Sheldon didn't have a problem taking Pokerstars money a few years ago.
