Assume these have gone out en masse today:

Dear

Today we published an article about how we are modernising our rewards program and the new direction we are taking. The new program will be a fundamental shift in how we reward players.

We are replacing our current monthly rakeback model with one that will take into account a variety of factors including volume, stakes, frequency of play and net deposits. Based on your previous play, you will likely be significantly impacted by the new changes. We cannot give you an exact figure, but in the most extreme cases some players will receive up to 85% less than under the previous program.

We are mindful of the significance of these changes and the negative impact they may have on you, and are communicating these changes now so that impacted players can plan accordingly. The article goes into more depth about the reasons why we are changing our rewards program, and can be viewed here.

We’ll continue to update you when more information is available regarding a specific launch date for the new rewards program in your area.
Regards,
Stars VIP Club

Still no details. They can say "fun! exciting!" as much as they want but at the end of the day it's a rake increase. Nothing fun or exciting about that, even if we get our own personalised rake increases.

This time around they're not even trying to pretend that they're giving back to fish. It can't be good that they feel the need to be so evasive - it'll be interesting to hear the first details from those in Denmark. Perhaps 30% in the form of a ragedollar for net depositors, personalised software crashes for the rest of us.

I don't care if losing players get more or if winning players get less if this will in some way bring more players to the site. Problem is that there is so little casual players playing these days, it's same faces as you go higher in stakes. Cash game traffic is awful.

Stars is only trying to cater to their bottom line, not any portion of the players.

Really like how they word it. Instead of blatantly stating they are going to ass**** you - they sugarcoat it very well by instead saying we are going to repeatedly penetrate your rectum with our genitalia.

The current monthly volume-driven rakeback model will be retired and will be replaced with one that rewards a variety of factors, such as volume, stakes, how often players play, and net deposits. Players whose rewards are likely to be significantly decreased under the new program are being contacted today with more details of the impact on them.
It sounds like you will have to make deposits to get bonuses that need to be cleared which is how it should be. That 85% decrease probably means the amount you can clear in one month is capped which is crap for pros but good for lower volume players.

My gues is that if you deposit regulary and dont cashout much they will give you some ****ty reloads to keep you happy. If you make one deposit and just cashout you don't need anything in stars perspective.

"We have seen additional concrete positive signs: more hands seeing the flop, bigger pot sizes, new players playing longer on the site than the year before, and players playing more frequently. These are all good indicators of a more fun and engaging playing experience across PokerStars. These were all positive results, but we want to be even more ambitious in delivering the best gaming experience."

Does anybody know if this is all true, and if so, what the actual numbers are?

Fwiw, the text appears identical (minus the subheading) to the blog post from two weeks ago:
https://www.pokerstars.com/en/blog/c...s-165830.shtml

Could imply that UK may be one of the first to switch to new system. Just speculation tho.

It's obviously the case that there are more casual players at the lowest stakes, but Stars doesn't really care about them, because they don't generate much rake. The bulk of their revenue comes from 100NL and 200NL (and PLO). Casual players that deposit $200 on a Friday night payday are much more important customers, since each one has the potential to pay more rake than a hundred 2NL newbies. The problem is that those 'weekend warriors' tend to go broke stupidly quickly - because of all the regs - and then they stop depositing.
The changes will be bad news for the breakeven/bumhunter 100NL/200NL regs (who might eventually quit), but in theory the best regs will benefit slightly in the medium-long term from the rewards being directed more towards the $200 donators, since it will keep the fish 'alive' a bit longer. The game might just die completely if some of the bad regs aren't forced out, because there aren't enough $200 fun players to sustain the current system forever.

They make more rake from casual players that deposit $200 on a Friday night and slowly bleed it to rake at NL25 or $5 spins over the course of a week.

True. Also the higher the effective rake the more selective the bumhunting process will be.

Stars was built on a no rake-back, no affiliate backhanders, occasional $120 on $600 deposit bonus setup.

It has gone full circle after several questionable years of subsidising its regs to over milk its customers.

The past decade, where so-called 'poker pros' could play 0.5/1 and below, was the downfall, not the growth driver.

Pretty likely to be a positive step for everyone in the end.
