At the moment, customer support of 6up claims that Chinese players on their skin are supposed not to be affected. So if you see Chinese players playing in the following days, they should come from that skin.
sorry if i misunderstand but does this mean that chinese players are not welcome on pokerstars.com but if i (european player) play on pokerstars.eu i CAN still play against chinese players (but now they log in from a different skin, the 6up)?

If this is true i guess its not that big of a deal right? But i might be reading it incorrect.

GG is most likely behind this and complained to the regulators. They have good connection and unlimited funds and are shady, they must be behind this.

I'm familiar with the One China policy, but didn't realize companies abide by it. I thought it was just a formality for countries like the US to save face for PR China so it can big the big gorilla in Asia.

It's nothing to do with GG. It's probably more long term planning, either for future entry into a more regulated Asian Market, or to stay squeaky clean for the US regulators. GG are nothing, they get no say in this.

Incidentally, Isai is still facing charges from back when Stars continued to serve US customers after UIGEA. The last time I read about him he was under house arrest after posting a million dollars bail.

He entered a guilty plea in March for "operating an illegal gambling business" and is still awaiting sentencing AFAIK.

pretty much the only companies not doing it don't have any business in china

a couple businesses who had millions in sales in china each quarter found themselves getting boycotts and having shops picketed just because some blogger posts a screenshot of their website listing store locations where they treat Taiwan separately from China

most companies adopt the "greater China" term to describe the entire region which gives them some wiggle room of not outright stating Taiwan is part of China to get political cover back home as that term predates the China/Taiwan issue

it's also important to recognize this isn't a cut and dry issue in that Taiwan still officially claims to be "China", used to represent China on the UN security council until 1971 and has never officially declared they are not China and whether or not to continue being Republic of China vs Taiwan is an ongoing debate that's often the focus of each election

Your interpretation is actually correct. Chinese players at the moment can still play on the 6up skin against players from the shared pool including .com and .eu

6up might eventually quit China too, but who knows?

Probably through third-party app (Red Dragon Poker) that shares player pool with PokerStars dot-com market.

More info here (though its a paywall link) - https://pokerindustrypro.com/news/ar...-jurisdictions

This is terrible news for high stakes on Stars - so often the target of the games has been from China or Macau. GG is just going to clean up moving forwards. Is Hong Kong also booted out?

Also I wondered about that 6up thing for a while - presumed it was some Chinese stable. Didn't think it was due to playing from a different skin, interesting!

I only play MTTs but I have seen very few people from China over the last few years which is bizarre. I see lots of Russians but very few Chinese. There are 1.4 Billion Chinese so you would expect to see more on the client considering they have 10 times the population of Russia, also considering the Chines love to gambool.

I also play MTTs on Stars and I have seen a fair volume of players from China over the years - so it will have an impact.

But considering the population size, you're right the volume of players was not as big as you would expect. Possibly due to lack of advertising over there and hard to get money on the site?

This makes sense. I used to play poker in Macau(China controlled) when the biggest game in the world was there. It moved to Manila because it was so difficult for the whales to get money into Macau. It makes sense that it would also be difficult for the people within China to get money onto internet poker sites.

Cryptocurrency can solve this problem if people would wake the **** up and start using it en masse.

I've played in Macau 3 times too. Not sure if they struggle to get money there - last time I was there in 2018 there were lots of $100-$200 (US equivalent) games going in the Wynn but don't think the really big games are played there as much anymore. I thought this was more because some of the guys were banned from the city like Phua? They usually play in London and other Asian places now I think.

That is not true. 6up's login account starts with 6up, but a player can just choose any available screen name in the pokerstars lobby when they first logged in.

I have a 6up account myself, I use 6up***** as my login, but my name on the table is actually tingonkg.

Some players from 6up are using same screenname as their login, so you may see lots of names start with 6up, but that's not all of them.

Just checked some tournament lobbies and there's still Chinese players playing today. I presume through the 6up skin - I guess as long as this is allowed there should still be a decent volume of Chinese players on the site.

Sucks for the 48 players who made it to Day2 of the $2.20 $250K GTD (begins in 16 days), who were affected by this change and are already listed as "Finished" in the game lobby.

Because there is no overarching authority which said „All operators need to close down in China by 1st September“.

Operators assess their regulatory risk, and risk appetite, individually.

Scary to mess with a country that isn't afraid of launching their sophisticated cyber warfare branch at anyone, at any given time.
