What do you play? China atleast used to be pretty big market and some might remember that they removed the don sngs from stars. And just checked there are chinese players in every zoom nl pool. I mean if you have played 15 years seems kind of strange if you never played against a chinese player.

Btw is this regulation situation? Other sites will follow? Like gg?

I have played a lot of those games when they used to run 247 without the current table limits and there were ton of chinese regs.

Regulation and GG on the same phrase?

Probably GG is behind it, their chinese high stakes players are all close friends of the CCP maybe they made Pokerstars go out

Chinese government pushed against all kinds of gambling, and many (live) high stakes regulars had issues. even officials in high positions got problems b/c of gambling. why would the party (finally) get rid of an operator, but still allow GGP (or the poker club apps) ... makes no sense at all. even if "their chinese high stakes players are all close friends of the CCP" would be true.

most likely reason is the US market (sports betting) and regulatory issues. there were similar incidents were operators left countries b/c they applied in the US or UK. if GGP still wants a foot on the US market (like DNegs said), i wouldn't be surprised if they will follow soon ... at least officially.

Deposits were often done via third parties and player transfers for Chinese so a lot of missed bonus whoring opportunities

In a larger context it's remarkable that they're leaving Taiwan at the same time that they leave China. I suppose that even when leaving the chinese market pstars decides to abide by the one China policy. Likely to stay on the good side of China, long term

(not leaving Taiwan at the same time as leaving China could have implied they consider the two countries separate)

I see that some Chinese players have made it to Day 2 in some of the WCOOP events. We'll see if they are sitting out when it starts back up in an hour.

Just FYI, apart from the standard Pokerstars.com client, Pokerstars have been running a special skin for China in corporation with a SEA company called 6up since several years ago. The 6up skin shares the .com player pool and it offers different deposit/withdrawal options than .com client. At the moment, customer support of 6up claims that Chinese players on their skin are supposed not to be affected. So if you see Chinese players playing in the following days, they should come from that skin.

So maybe(hopefully) more of a protectionist move like Tiktok has to do if they wanna keep serving the US customers? So chop it up and keep more of the revenue/data of the region inside the region.

Really hope you're right on this one. China is a sleeping giant and just needs a strong operator to step up and have good game security/integrity.

I play from Taiwan. Also received a similar email, with much less details.

Ironically, after playing exclusively in Pokerstars since years ago, I had withdrawn all my bankroll one week ago and moved it to another site as a protest against their software bugs and their insulting customer service.

I don't think it has nothing to do with that.

Just consider the amount of websites/services banned in China that are not banned in Taiwan. Not like CCP is going to care about Taiwanese citizens being able to access a website/platform that Chinese citizens can't.

While they do expect the whole world to pretend they believe Taiwan is a breakaway province of PRC, they don't act as if they had any power in Taiwan.
