The loser of the money -- at least temporarily, thanks to Gamboa's good deed -- was a famous 28-year-old professional poker player, whom officials weren't publicly identifying, according to another CNN affiliate, KLAS.

The gambler was so devastated at his loss Monday that "he wanted to shoot himself in the head," a cab company official told KLAS.
Now who do we know who's 28 and suicidal?

From what I'm hearing I was told it was in fact Allen Kessler.

If Kessler had a wiki page we would know if he was 28. I'll take the over.

And LOL at all of you putting down the cab driver for being honest. Apart from it just being the right thing to do, it wouldn't have been hard for the rightful owner to track him down once he realized the money had been lost.
The math is not even where he is going wrong.

He is claiming 27 - 13 = Being too young to drive. Which is true as 14 is too young.

Where he made a mistake was misunderstanding that it said the guy had lived in LV for 27 years and not that he was 27 years old.

well, what is a man with $300,000 doing in taxi cabs? Shouldn't he be renting FERRRARRRRIS?

I don't understand how someone does this. I thought you were supposed to have a gross disrespect for the money ON THE TABLE. This is unfathomable.

Yes, of course. And ALL poor people are bad with money. That's why they are poor, right? It's THEIR fault!

Most LOTTERY WINNERS live partially or fully in fantasy-land to start with, which is why they spend money (often huge amounts of their cash flow) buying tickets to start with. Then of course they are going to live out the fantasy if they win, and they end up blowing it all. But that has nothing in particular to do with poor people.

He's a stiff 100%. Which coincides with so many poker players with a BR that big or bigger.
whenever they this, you can count on no tip

This is theft.
We probably agree on this.

Your wallet is hanging out of your back pocket.

Someone walking behind you sees it fall out of your pocket as you continue walking.

He picks it up and takes off with it.

When you discover this, you shrug and say "Finders keepers".
Sure.

You lack integrity, as do the others in this thread who would try to justify their theft of someone else's money with childish rhymes or blaming it on the victim ("He deserves to lose it").

I'm sure the cabbie thought it might belong to some unsavory or powerful ppl, and lose his thumbs, or his job. Cabbie got a check from the company for 1k. Everybody WINS in Vegas.

I didn't say that, and thank you for injecting words in my mouth. But here are a few facts for your consumption that support my statement. (Citations available upon request)

Approximately 75% of the households in the USA are one paycheck away from financial disaster. Interestingly enough, if you go to the more affluent neighborhoods, that number goes up to 85%.

Most households in the USA have negative equity when it comes to liquid funds. That is to say, the balance of their savings account is lower than the balance of their credit cards. By quite a lot.

Why? Because they can't manage money. They buy too much house, too much car, too much stuff, and then suddenly they find out that their monthly expenses (mostly to debt) have grown to match their income through their carelessness.

Poor and rich alike, people SUCK at managing money - and injecting 300k isn't going to magically change that regardless of your income level. Although in general the poorer economic levels have BETTER percentages when it comes to money management, because necessity is the mother of learning how the **** to do it right, there are STILL plenty of poor people who suck at money management. It doesn't make them poor - but it helps keep them that way because when they do get a big infusion they just blow it - exactly like people with bigger incomes do when they get the same big infusions.

Of course - it's the casino business model. Duh.

I would have returned 270K of that money

I don't want anyone's money, but I also don't want to be rewarded with a handshake, if that money belongs to some Ebenezer Scrooge type of douchebag.

10% seems fair for everyone. I know I would sign for 90% of my money if I were stupid enough to leave it in a taxi.

He just picked up his 300K and needs to get the guys contact information to reward him? What, is he going to send him some popcorn as a reward? Does not make sense why he would not simply give me some cash from the 300K as a reward for being honest.

What's your point? No one said they'd become set for life - just that suddenly being injected with 300K would change their lives, and it will, even if it's just for a few years.

Did 50% of you skip over the part where it said 28 year old Poker player???

Confirmed Jay Farber who is indeed 28 years old

Dan Fleyshman seemed to hinted at putting quotations by the word "famous"
also have to think.... how many poker players are actually famous... and 28 years old? Not many

I believe Jay Farber is 29 years old now? Someone correct me if im wrong. (though it would make sense going from Cosmo to Palms which has great nightclubs etc.. and him being a club promoter). Maybe this is his way of flaunting his money also after his recent huge score and getting 'more' media attention?
