CardPlayer editor Jeff Shulman, 34, plans to throw the WSOP Main Event bracelet “in the garbage” if he makes and wins the November NineTM final table.

We had been hearing from multiple sources for days that Shulman is saying that if he were to win the 2009 WSOP Main Event, he’d renounce the bracelet as he believes that Harrah’s has treated his magazine unfairly in recent years. We just asked Shulman on the first break if this was true, to which he replied, “If by renounce it you mean throw it in the garbage, then yes.”
This is from the 2009 WSOP tournament rules:

Quote:
SECTION IV – PLAYER CONDUCT AND TOURNAMENT INTEGRITY

30. CODE OF PLAYER CONDUCT FOR THE 2009 WSOP
C. Harrah’s will penalize any act that, in the sole and absolute discretion of Harrah’s, is inconsistent with the official rules or bests interests of the Tournament.

31. In addition to that authorized in Rule 30, Harrah’s may impose penalties of any kind or nature upon any person who gives, makes, issues, authorizes or endorses any statement or action having, or designed to have, an effect prejudicial or detrimental to the best interest of the Tournament as determined by Harrah’s, acting in its sole and absolute discretion. This may include, but shall not be limited to, expulsion from the event and property, forfeiture of a player’s entry fee(s) and/or loss of the right to participate in this and/or any other Tournament conducted by Harrah’s. Additionally, Harrah’s may in its sole and absolute discretion impose penalties of any kind or nature upon any person who, in Harrah’s view engages in inappropriate conduct during Tournament play.

That's a bit of a stretch. Merely stating that you will throw the bracelet in the trash doesn't really fit the rules you've stated.

(This is a copy of the forum post I left on CardPlayer for his eminence to read.)

So, it has been alleged in other online publications that Jeff Schulman has promised to throw his ME bracelet in the trash when/if he wins it, because he is pizzed about losing whatever rights he/Cardplayer had to WSOP coverage a couple years ago.

This reminds me of the opening montage of the spy adventure TV series "Burn Notice," where one ex-spy speaking to another ex-spy, says, "You know spies, Michael, a bunch of bit chi little girls."

Apparently poker publisher/card players fit the mold as well.

Grow a set of man-rocks, Jeff. FLAUNT the bracelet as your ultimate vindication, if you win it, and glory in the fact that all the "preferred" outlets for WSOP coverage have to display YOUR SHINNING FACE in their rags. Can you visualize your Bluff magazine cover wearing your SpadeClub shirt and CardPlayer hat? What better vengeance could you elicit? Not to mention the free advertising.

No one has any idea what was said / done in those talks with harrahs and card player. Until i know i will reserve judgement.

If I learned anything from check raising the devil, its to wait until you hear both sides of a story before you judge someone.

Considering this guy is still butt-hurt over a business decision that was made a year or two ago, he can personally suck it.

He's just another spoiled child who's had a good job handed to him by his parents. When he doesn't get his way he cries like a little baby. WAHHH!!!

I'm going to be waiting beside that trashcan to pick up the bracelet if he does do that. And then later, when he changes his mind, he can buy it back from me for $1 million. Sounds about right?

From Gary Wise's latest article:

Quote:
"It has nothing to do with [Card Player no longer having exclusive rights to WSOP coverage]," the 34-year-old Las Vegas native said. "It's about my lack of respect for the WSOP and the management here and what they've done to the players. That said, I still wouldn't wear it if I was best friends with them. When I had a chance to win years ago, I said I wouldn't wear it. I'm shocked that people wear those ugly things."

"Jeff generally says and does what he means, so if he says something, I don't doubt he's going to do it," best friend Adam Schoenfeld said. "I just see this as a professional wrestling heel turn ,and Jeff's just gonna be the bad guy, so it doesn't hurt anyone."

"If I win, I'll never play at the Rio or WSOP again," Shulman said. "If I win, I'll never play poker again.
