This thread was very well written and I really enjoyed reading it. I think the thing that seperates Ivey from the rest is he is simply better to put all those little pieces of information together
- bet sizeing, timing, table image, +1 level thinking, good math, allmost never tilts, opponents emotional state, opponents view of your emotional state, oponents view of ur view of his emotional state, history if he played them before, opponent line analyzeing with bet timing, fast adjusting, changing gears, taking diffrent lines to confuse opponents about his hand strengh... ect ect ect... all kind of diffrent information he thinks about.

Also I think Ivey is very good at playing his opponent on the psycological level, and I think thats even more important in high stakes games, than lower stakes, simply because people are higher level thinkers

Ivey's reactions to bad beats is something that ALL poker players should mimic.

I think about the "not talking poker strategy" thing, that in a way you could say when he steps away from the poker table, he's still playing poker, or at least in some form doing something to improve or not affect his EV by not talking about how he thinks about the game. This also impresses me, because its like he lives for the poker.

I used to argue that Ivey is the most over-rated poker player ever "which I still Believe", then he made the final 9 in the ME. So I'll wait a year or 2 before revisiting the Ivey is over-rated in poker. Until then I will remind you that he is the most over-rated Craps player ever. You fanboys think hes making money off Craps, the math tells a different story.

Easy to play when you don't need the money and have nothing to lose, unlike most of us. Not to say he isn't the best all-round player in the world, or maybe ever. Nice article.

i really don't get why this confused, aimless post which has absolutely nothing worthwhile to say is getting so much love.

What I admire most about Ivey is he is probably the biggest name poker player never to write a book. He just does his thing and wins.

good read op

I don't think ivey is overrated one bit considering he plays the least amount of hands each year among the nosebleed players and consistently wins the most. His winrates in online games are nothing short of incredible.

Okay, what they didn't mention: Ivey pulled out an apple and starting eating it right before this hand. What was on the line a 2 or 3 million dollar difference in postions?

When Ivey gets all in and Moon calls and Ivey shows his AK against a dominated AQ of Moon's. Did Ivey jump up and run around douchey high-fiving all his douch friends? Nope, didn't even blink. Just kept munching on the apple.

Flop 6-6-Q, Moon hits. Does Ivey start screaming and rolling around on the floor? Tears and spit, yelling about the suck out? Nope, didn't even blink. Just kept munching on the apple.

Turn Blank. Does Ivey loom over the table hollering at the top of lungs - ONE TIME DEALER, ONE TIME!! Nope, the river blanks, Ivey picks up things, shakes hands, and walks off.
Exactly

Is it just me or are players who write books not that good to begin with? I mean, not extraordinary and figure they need the cash just in case their above average but not top of the range skill set starts getting unlucky.
