What book is he talking about ffs?
03-14-2011 , 04:36 PM
he learned to speak American ldo

Those accent people have obviously never hung out with foreign people.
Like ever.
I hung out with some Danish kids in Denmark and when they spoke English it was very American.
Hollywood influence definitely.
60% of the movies in rental stores are straight up American movies with Danish subs and these kids are watching them from like the age of 4 or 5.

Erm, ive been to portugal about 5 times. i live in Europe, i understand the concept that if you learn off someone you imitate their accent, but he have like 0% portugese accent in there, i dont get it, he sounds 100% american.

I sent him a PM with very little hope of a reply. he actually took the time to reply! This really sets him apart in my book. also watched his interview. he is really way more mature than most guys dbl his age.

No he doesn't. There are a ton of words or sounds in his pronunciation that are much more British than American. Anything that has an "or" sound in it for example (like "thought" or "awesome") has a definite British twang to it, or words like "what" are totally British sounding. I can't believe I'm going into this, but if it helps put this whole line of conversation to bed then so be it.

Seriously, can we just drop the whole language argument already? It's like the absolute least interesting element to this whole story so enough with all the derails.

Americans tend to live in a very big small world. Listen to us europeans,,,, acent means squat. Im English and all the foreign exchanges we had, had perfect english with either american or english accents all dependent upon teachers and the media they studied. There grasp of english studied from a young age now makes me feel ignorant looking back.

Hey I saw your interview with pokerstatic and heard you were looking for people to coach. When I saw the interview I feel like I'm in the same spot you were at a few years ago. I'm 17 right now, been playing real-money poker on various sites for 3 years or so. I've been through the ups and downs of trying to make poker a living and I know what it means to deal with the extreme swings. I'm very motivated to improve and eventually want become a profitable player. I've read a lot of the books; all of the Harrington series, some of the Sklansky ones, and countless articles/posts. I do whatever I can to improve my game and I think about poker all the time. I can see myself in the same stakes as you someday and I hope we can talk some things over. Thanks! When I lived in the US (I'm English.. Home Counties stylie accent), I was often mistaken for an Aussie and even had 'It's so refreshing to hear a different accent, what part of Germany are you from?'. :-/

The 'Merikan's ability to place different accents and the subtle nuances of the same are flawed.

As you were.

Yep this is correct. When I heard the first few words of the interview my immediate thought was 'lol yankaments' but his vowels frequently descend into britfaggery - if anything this accent-based weirdness convinced me more than the content of his poker yap as during my first degree I shared a flat with a girl who went to an international school and she had similarly wonky hybrid vowel inunciations.

This is coming from a guy who initially questioned the authenticity of the OP due to the quality of English (and I wasn't technically wrong since it was admitted that it was re-written )... The Hawaii stuff is just absurd - Hawaii has legendary status across the entire planet ffs, I've got an auntie from Serbia who's obsessed about holidaying to Hawaii (dirt poor sadly ).

Anyway, very likeable kid in that interview. Most teenagers are monumental twunts and it's really good to see someone like him having success.

FAKE.

Also: HAARP caused the tsunami, 9/11 was an inside job and Obama is a muslim reptile shape shifter.
03-15-2011 , 05:45 AM
Until we get his SNs, this thread should be locked.
03-15-2011 , 05:57 AM
I thought 9/11 caused the Obama tsunami? Now you're telling me it was reptile Muslim shape shifters? What's next.. JFK on the moon?
03-15-2011 , 06:17 AM
JFK never went to the moon.
Don't believe the mainstream media!

I've just seen the interview, and personally it motivated the hell out of me. I found it really inspirational and for someone so young he shows an amazing amount of maturity and intelligence.
I'm happy I have seen this as this makes me really want to try harder at all aspects of my game and try and keep improving instead of playing on auto pilot.
