How many "no name" 2+2 players do you think can consistently beat Doyle Brunson in a cash game? How many "no name" 2+2 players do you think can consistently beat Doyle Brunson in a cash game?

OP would you consider someone like fisheye to be an unknown? He's probably known pretty well amongst HSNL players but afaik not many others know about him. If I had to guess (my guess obv means absolutely nothing) I'd say he'd be a better hu nlhe player than doyle, and prob 6max too.

Also in general I'm sure there are a few players on euro sites that aren't that well known and could step up to the challenge.

Another random stab in the dark for me would be that alot of the players (well known included) who had an edge at doyle in short handed hold'em would prob not be as good as him in a full ring game. No idea though.

IMO

I think around 350 would be able to beat him

I think we need to clarify the stakes, yes. So let's say at a stake where the online no-name good player has a roll for... say 600NL with a limited roll of say 20BI's one table at a time HU until someone busts who becomes the loser. This way Doyle can't use his unlimited BR to bully the online player. Either Doyle vs online player HU 600NL 20BI's 1-table-at-a-time until someone busts, or if we wanna do 6max then 1-table at a time, 600NL 20BI's over 10000 hands see who has made a bigger profit. This format also is very generous to Doyle because I'm sure he can't 8-table as well as the online pro.

fwiw I don't think Doyle can't beat the top 100 fame-less players from 2/4 to 5/10 online across all sites using the format I just listed.

We need more of these impossible to answer hypotheticals in NVG.
09-01-2009 , 10:17 PM
more than the number of good threads there have ever been in NVG

alot?

Measured by pure and raw poker skills (equities, ranges, lines/balancing, adapting etc) I think the best online players are way better than Brunson, Chan and the old school crew.
But in a live game different skills can outwheigh those raw skills.

OP: Poker is alot more than NLHE.

It's not like Doyle is ducking anyone. If they think they can beat him, just head over the the B.

I'm a no name 2+2 player. I wouldn't be afraid to sit with Doyle HU. But I wouldn't be stupid enough to think I had some big edge.

This whole notion that well known players who were very successful before the poker boom and during the boom are all fish has gone way too far. They are by means the best players in the world anymore, but that does not make them fish. It's true that no one in the world has any huge edge on them. Small edge yes but is that really conversation worthy?

I mean you see these guys make a few bad decisions on TV and you think you have discovered that they suck. That is nonsense. You can find even worse TV plays made by Townsend and Roble, two huge online winners. Does that mean they suck too?

None. It is amazing how some players now have zero respect for the old poker champions. I am not a huge fan of the guy but come on he is regarded as one of the best poker players ever and wrote the book which probably paved the pathway for how you learned how to play poker in one way or another. It is amazing someone even posted this question.

Are we talking about online or live? And if you make it a level playing field by hypothetically making it so Doyle and the no-name were playing for a sum of money that mattered a lot to them and live Doyle would absolutely crush them. Online it is a very different game and most people would argue live poker where you can look your opponent in the eyes is more "real" poker.
09-02-2009 , 12:04 AM
i could crush doyle all day. he would kill me in mix games though

How the hell could someone possibly answer that question.
