Would someone please comment seriously on how he plays? It seems as though he goes deep in tourneys. Aside from being toolish, is he any good?

^^ You can get lessons from Doug yourself for 600$/hr if you pass the interview. He is already teaching 10 students so you might not be worthy enough.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
I used to play with him a lot when I was a live pro, living in Vegas. He's a nice guy... Though he really is a tool. I'm sorry, that's just one of the only ways to describe the silly things he does and says to draw attention to himself, make sure others "know who he is," and justify some of his play. He was playing a bit higher back then--he'd just come off a couple solid tourney finishes and was VERY full of himself. I personally thought his no-limit game was sub-par, even for live poker, and the time period. He seemed to really believe in luck, being due, and other silly things like that...Or it was all a brilliant level--I dont think so though. He also used a lot of poker jargon that you could tell he really didnt understand, assuming that others didnt understand it either, so he could stroke his own ego by showing players how much he "knew." He often justified crazy plays with "putting you on a hand," or "knowing you had that hand," even when it was an incredibly small part of villains distribution. And that's just his no limit game... His limit game was LOL bad.
I don't have anything against the guy. He was almost always polite and nice to other players, especially players we all knew to be fish. He was however, at times, rude and ridiculous to other players who were signifigantly bigger winners than he was, in a toolish attempt to belittle them. I remember he used to say all the time in limit, "how could you value bet a player like me with that hand," as he was throwing his cards into the muck.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
I played with Doug at a Venetian deep stack tournament in 2011, I had no clue who he was, and he played fairly solid not making a ton of mistakes but not running the table over either.
I must say I do not recall him saying anything too list for the first two hours. And then he hit a 2 outer for his tourney life when I flopped top two and he turned top and bottom. Someone at the table said he runs like online poker and then he started saying how he was a sponsored player for full tilt. For the next two hours all I heard was how great he played win the wsopc event he shipped.
I will say though that JadeLane is correct, he is not a mean guy and did not disrespect a player at the table.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
ive seen him berate dealers for a small error then force them to call the floor over to shame them........ thats pretty toolboxy
i think i may have posted this but cant remember, if you have played even a little 2-5 at the venetian you have probably played with "mike" and i dont need to say which mike you will remember, well my 2nd favorite doug lee moment (after him doubling my KK pre with his 10s, and as nitty as i am and as long as we had played together that was just awful) was when doug and mike gave each other an hours worth of horrific old man trash talk
to dougs credit i think its the only time ive seen mike get really tilted

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
The people coming to Doug Lee's defense have to remember that if he just played his game, and had the results he has had, he would just be a regular player who occasionally runs deep, and is an above average tourney player. But, the fact that when you throw in all the angle shooting, down right shady etiquette at the tables, and the flat out attempts at self aggrandizement, he becomes the toolbox he is.
He might be the nicest guy on the poker scene to those who know him personally, but the fact is, when in the public eye, he is a toolbox. He proves it over and over and over. If anything, this thread might be a wake-up call to him and an opportunity for him to do some self reflection and possibly change his toolbox ways.
I wont hold my breath, but if Tony Korfman can change, so can Doug Lee.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
I've been a lurker, but this thread caused me to register. I've read the whole thing and my brain has been reduced to mush and bullet points.
- Doug Lee is the biggest toolbox ever.
- People who make it through reading this whole thread deserve a little medal under their avatars.
- People on this thread have some of the most wicked Photoshop skills ever! (Toolbox is jealous; he doesn't have a Photoshop. Maybe we can give him a The Gimp.)
- I want a Welcome mat with "See you on the felt!" on it.
- Is Toolbox secretly older than he claims? The only reason I can think of for hauling around a potato in your pocket (except for Rule 34, of course) is as a cure for/prophylactic against arthritis. I only know about that because I'm a grumpy old broad and we know these things, so what up, 'box?)
I have looked long into the Abyss that is the Toolbox, but that means (apologies to Nietzsche) that the Toolbox has looked long into me. I'm going to go shower with bleach now. Thanks for all the laughs!

1. Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance, value, or production.
Don't know why my auto correct hyphenated it. That does make it a bit confusing. Hope this clears it up.

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?
Was playing the nightly 7pm at Venetian Monday......toolbox was still in the DSE Main Event and made the money.
Didn't see how he finished though, but was still in when the money burst (top 24 I think).
