You have no idea how deals work.

When sooooo much money is at stake is would make sense to kill some of the variance with some deal I would think

lol because people care about online attitude. Hellmuth is an ******* to players but people like him because he does interviews? So if you don't do interviews you are a dick? Yeah, seems fair.

A lot of the deal talking is with a player and his backers, it's not just the players decision. If Coleman's backers think he has a huge edge he won't do a deal.

the honest answer is "i play poker to win money, that's it" to pretty much every question a poker "reporter" can think to ask. he doesn't owe them anything.

My thoughts exactly......if my local poker rooms routinely live stream festival events, how is that the $1,000,000 BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP has no live stream ??

How in the world would it not be more expensive to do a stream?

there's a large gap between "he doesn't owe them anything" and "not good for poker"

seems you are arguing two different premises

sure he can do whatever he wants, he ponied up the money to enter

doesn't mean the casual people watching wont all be cheering for negreanu

i hope he does the happy version of Popovich and gives one word answers to ESPN then gives no other interviews.

ESPN sells commercials when they air the event on TV. whether or not the poster you responded to understands that, that is the reason ESPN decided not to give their content away for free on the internet.

Poker reporting has not evolved much, some years ago reporters were whining about tournament winners not tipping them.

Live Stream: Cameras, camera mans, sound systems, commentators, production crew, production costs, venue, etc.

They are only airing the heads up match.....correct ?

Regardless.....I don't think live stream or no live stream effect the eventual TV ratings. Can someone prove me wrong ??

By the time they air these things live, I feel the poker world has moved on.

Maybe you watch....maybe you don't......but it wont depend on weather you followed a live stream or not.......because you're surly following the blogs/tweets/etc....etc...already.

How many of these local poker room festival events are shown in highlight form on ESPN? Please think before you post.

The year that the ME was streamed and resulted in a big dip in ESPN viewing figures proves you wrong quite nicely.

ESPN proved you wrong when they looked at their internal data and made the business decision to not do a live stream.

Whatever. No one owes you a stream. Espn ponied up money to have day so. They don't have to prove anything...though it seems pretty obvious.

Um, it can be streamed without any of that stuff for like a grand a month on ************ It's very simple, really.

Certainly not WAY MORE as you claimed before.

Personally, I don't think it competes with the highly edited version that ESPN provides. I know I watch both. Most of the live players I know don't even want to watch the live stuff because most of it is raise, fold, next hand, etc. Too boring for them.

But yes I get that ESPN bought the rights for OneDrop / ME, and that's why the first time it'll be on TV is through their show. Makes complete sense, just unfortunate.

A live stream is not a show produced for tv, fyi

DeepStacks Poker Tour Events (now part of WPT) have their own production crew filming for regional television episodes on Comcast. They still LIVE stream the event, and especially the final tables.

I doubt it has much effect on the TV Ratings of the final production. You watch each medium for very different reasons.......and I doubt one has much impact on the other.
