If only there was a book that could tell us how Jewish people are supposed to behave , according to their own beliefs

rafiki is right. Jews can be *******s too. And it's kind of a low bar. Your friends and family don't have to be that extraordinary to clear it.

You mean the one that tells them they can't wear clothes made of two different kinds of fabric? Or death penalty for two men ****ing? I wouldn't look for answers there.

I think people as a whole were probably a bit nicer back then when I was at school, politically anyway.

Also, very important, if you're not married and have a married brother who has no children and he dies, you have to marry his widow.

This one is pretty famous.

I think this is a learning moment. I suspect washoe and probably a lot of Gentiles don't even know that the Torah is the first 5 books of the Bible.

Seeing as how you might end up shacked up with her, do you also have a say in who he marries in the first place? Like a right to veto? Seems only fair.

I said if you're not married. If you don't like her, that's not enough. If she has someone else ready and willing she can marry them instead, but you are on the hook if she wants it.

It's in Deuteronomy.

Apparently in ancient China it was the custom too (though perhaps not codified as such).

Who are you talking about? Luciom? You're white knighting luciom? SMH.

And of course he's not ignoring me. He responds to my posts plenty and not with as much hostility as you do.

That could lead to some pretty odd behaviours. Like if your childless bro was married to someone you really didn't like at all, you might find yourself going extra lengths to ensure his wellbeing. lol

There are death penalties. The talmud interprets it very narrowly and in most cases opposes capital punishment but it certainly does allow it when deserved

For washoe (or others)

The Talmud is not the Torah/Bible. It was written in about 500CE and is not even claimed to be the word of God. It's like scholarly/legal interpretations and codification of traditions at that point.

The mishna was written between 0 and 200 ce. As i said it is interpreting the torah and "deciding" what is mean in the torah and there are whole books of the sanhedron dedicated to capital punishment
