I think the mistake that is often made with criticism of gun control measures and how they would be ineffective is that they're looked at isolation. The US gun culture isn't going to be noticeably changed overnight, or in one year or five. It will take generations. Looking at any one proposed change and suggesting it won't move the needle means nothing ever gets changed.

And this personalization of things is another mistake. Governing means making difficult choices, and prioritizing some concerns over others. One can try to change the gun culture without believing legal gun owners are "the bad guys".
