Aside from the ridiculous charges from the car dealership where I bought my Chevy Bolt there are virtually no costs for upkeep aside from replacing the air filter and filling up the tires. But in fairness I had ridiculous costs for my Toyota Prius at that dealership until I found a local mechanic. And we moved my wife's Lexus to that mechanic as well because the Lexus dealership had crazy pricing for things that didn't need to be fixed...
Brake pads are virtually not used because my electric car has an engine brake on the steering wheel. There are no coolants, radiator, catalytic converters (which are now being stolen off of cars at a record pace), mufflers, tail pipes, gear fluid, oil for the pistons, spark plugs, distributors, ignition coils, gears, etc.
My fan based air conditioner did stop working so I basically drove with open windows until the software got rebooted (somehow that fixed it two different times). My Hybrid Prius also had electrical issues concerning windows in very cold weather.
But I am glad for the additional reasons not to have an accident (which I was unaware of until reading your post). I have been driving with a new sense of awareness after I got into an accident with my Prius due to a very odd set of circumstances. The car was not going to make it much longer anyway (catalytic converter replacement was necessary to pass inspection). But I really don't want to have another accident and this just makes it more important.
