National regulations for asylum seekers vary from country, and I am no specialist on US rules. Still, it would surprise me greatly if fresh asylum seekers have work permits.

In general in this thread there seems to be a sore lack of knowledge as to what an asylum seeker is. An asylum seeker is a person who has fled (or claims to have fled) their country due to the risk of harm or harm to their person.
  • They are not illegal immigrants, an asylum seeker follows established protocol to apply for the right to stay.
  • They are not work immigrants, an asylum seeker rarely has a permit to work right away.
  • They are not automatically refugees, that is a status afforded if their application is approved.*
* They can be regarded as refugees even before a verdict on their application, if they are recognized as such under the UN refugee convention or equivalents.

As long as the person is an asylum seeker, it means they have yet to receive a verdict on their application to stay.

they might as well stay in el Salvador. even that might be better that Detroit. you don't flee from stuff the US has done to your country to go to a place the US has gave up on and is similarly bad, maybe even worse.

these people are not seeking asylum, that might be a tiny percentage. the most people, probably over 90% are trying to escape poverty.

what the US has become is like South Africa, or like in the movie escape from LA with kurt russell, where poor people are trapped into ghettos with all the criminals and the rich live on islands. Martha's V. LMAO. 97% white? and Obama has a house there? what a traitor he is.

nice stunt there, I like it. exposes what hypocrates they are.

next they should all buy them a ticket to CA like they do anyways with all the homeless. one way ticket to the coast, that might solve it.

did you see the masses of people marching down the streets in Mexico with no shoes looking like bums moving towards your border? no? well I did. they are not all from Venezuela I can tell you that much. they are from whole Latin America. and they are definetly not all asylum seekers. you should look at some numbers.

Has anyone looked at how Mexico treats undocumented immigrants? Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala are probably similar. If someone shows up from south of Mexico and try to enter without the proper paperwork and are caught, the cops beat the crap out of them, take all their money and personal items (including shoes) and throw them in the street. No food, no shelter, no bus or plane ride.

Talk to someone who has tried to get a job in another country, especially Mexico, it's an extraordinary complex and time consuming process. The applicant has to jump through many hoops to justify hiring a foreigner and not take a job away from a citizen.

Wow, sounds like a horrible system that we shouldn't try to emulate.

I also am no expert in this area, but you are correct, as I explained in the Abbott and DeSantis thread.

Probably that these people are better off to stay in their countries for their own good. They do have no education or housing nor food or money. So some of them will resort to crime, yes of course, what else? Yes if they want to live and work in the US, they should be allowed to. But most of them are not fleeing voluntarily. They flee because their country was turned into a corrupt hell.

But tell that to Kamala Harris and Hunter Biden. They want to talk talk talk, but never do or share.

We want to stop messing with their home country so that they dont have to flee. Biden made laws that declared the war on drugs which made their home country into a drug enterprise with the single purpose of suppying people like hunter biden with cheap but illegal stuff.

The poverty problem is man made, the border problem is man made.

All this can be solved but the dems are not doing it, the reps are not doing it. Nobody is interested in fixing this problem.

They are pretending to be until they get a check from the prison or pharma lobby, or whoever will fill their pockets. The dems are puppets pretending to solve a problem but never do. They might be officially but cannot get things accomplished for like 60 years now or how long is it?

Democrats aren't in fav or of legalizing all drugs, but weed is varying degrees of legal in most blue states.

Washoe is such a caricature of a conspiracy theorist that I'm starting to wonder if this isn't some performative art project.

I don't think it defines his worldview in the same way it defines LB's worldview.

washoe is more like a natural experiment that tests the corrosive effect of algorithmic video recommendations on the human mind.

Poll I looked at put 69% of Dems (regular people) in favor of decriminalization, which is not the same thing. It does have a specific legal meaning, but I think it's mostly people being afraid to go where they want and just being like "I dunno, how about a compromise." Kind of like saying you're agnostic because you're afraid to say you're an athiest.

But, yeah, hardly most Dem politicians are in favor of decriminalization, let alone legalization.

I think that's right, especially for something soon and widespread. Inventing whole new programs and departments would be hard. But, I wouldn't take what master (I think it was him) said in that kind of offhand response as his fully thought out plan for housing assistance.
