Yes they are burning money. Any customer can get the sports bets and they don't have to play poker. The reason to mention it here is that there is an awareness that many poiker players don't pay attention to the sports side and just blow it off. It is free money/value which is basically extra rakeback. And it is right there.

For Stars, It is advertising and customer retention. For every person who takes the $10 free bet and profits is somebody else discovering how easy it is to deposit more money to try to make different bets.
Same for the free money and bonuses they give you on poker signups.

As another poster mentioned, the other poker sites give a lot of free money and promos as well.
If all you do is take advantage of the promo/bonus offers you will eventually get booted from some sites. They actually DO watch their bottom line. Even regular profitable players who aren't even binge-watching can also get kicked off sports betting sites.
But I don't know how true that is at Fox/PokerStars for a player that is already paying a ton in rake so ahead and take the bonuses as they come. It is extra value even if it is just a few bucks.

I put $10 on the over/under for the mnf game and only got paid for the result, no extra money for the mahomes/jackson td's. Also put $50 on the eagles v sf because I'm under the impression it's a freeroll but kind of worried now. Will it say on the bet slip that it's eligible for the freeroll?

I believe it is already there for the Mahomes thing in the form of a bunch of free bets of $5 each available via a dropdown. It doesn't go straight into your account right away.

If you try to place a bet on any sports event now you should have a little drop-down that allows you to use your $5 free bet instead of your account funds. You get the choice. You have to bet it multiple times at $5 each to use all of them.

I have 6 free bets hanging in my account right now. I assume that some of these are recently credited from the Mahomes thing and some are leftover from previous promos. I've had as many as 15 or 20 little free bets in my account at the same time before.
I don't really pay that much attention to when exactly I get paid for which promo and I kind of forget a lot of them. But frequently I have leftover free bets that I haven't gotten around to using yet. Usually the bets show up pretty fast the next day or something I think.
