Also, we're in discussions with Betfair about getting a rep here for their NJ site as well.
Are you going to move to the Sub-Forum with Ultimate, Party. WSOP, or do they have to advertise on 2Plus2 in order to appear there?

So I've been playing WSOP happily till last night it started Geolocate disconnecting me mid hand. I can't play poker if they are going to do that. Do all the sites do it mid hand? If they at least wait till the hands over I can deal, I only play cash, so its annoying but not a game ender.

This one blew my mind. VMware Workstation was my remote control software according to Borgata and Party. I would never have guessed that would trip their alarm.
whedrick, you're a lifesaver! Couldn't figure out why my main desktop machine was failing the RDP check (I resorted to playing on my laptop in the interim which never had this problem). I have VMWare Player 5.0.2 installed on my desktop machine, and this was causing the problem. It runs 4 services in the background (even if you're not running any virtual machines) and I run the following batch commands from an admin elevated command prompt to stop them:

net stop "VMAuthdService"
net stop "VMNetDHCP"
net stop "VMware NAT Service"
net stop "VMUSBArbService"

Once I stop these, I can log completely into the client and play. When I'm done playing poker and I need to run any of my virtual machines, I then run these commands (again from an admin elevated command prompt):

net start "VMAuthdService"
net start "VMNetDHCP"
net start "VMware NAT Service"
net start "VMUSBArbService"

Maybe I don't need to kill all 4, but that's for experimentation another day. For now, I'm delighted I can get in with my main machine.

FYI: VirtualBox causes similar problems. It doesn't appear to have any background services, but if you're running it, you can't log into WSOP.

Thanks so much for your post. I would have never figured this out on my own. I had no idea virtualization software was the culprit.

*N.J. SUSPENDS POKERSTARS LICENSE APPLICATION FOR 2 YEARS
*N.J. REGULATORS CITE ROLE IN EARLIER ONLINE GAMBLING

http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanva...bling-license/

So looks like we have to wait 2 years before we see a Stars in NJ... State giving Borgparty/WSOP a 2 year head start.

“The Division of Gaming Enforcement has determined that the application of Rational Services Limited (PokerStars) casino service industry licensure (CSIE) will be held in a suspended status for a period of two years,” the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement said in a statement. “The Division, within that period, may consider a request for relief to reactivate the application if significantly changed circumstances are demonstrated at which time the Division’s investigation of PokerStars and its affiliated entities and associated individuals will be resumed to assess suitability.”

...so someones gotta leave to get that application active again?

over/under till the application is no longer suspended?

no, it means Stars will never do business in NJ as long as it is controlled by Isai Scheinberg or until he resolves the outstanding federal indictment against him...Resorts really shot themselves in the foot by partnering w/Stars...maybe Jimmy Buffett can start a poker website for them to go with...

I am the one person who is celebrating the Poker Stars news, we have a small population and two sites is perfect. I have to believe most of Ultimate Poker and 888 players will find there way to the big two when the freerolls and such cease.

Congrats on all the current NJ sites you get to live for 2 years. Maybe try upgrading your software to say mid 2000's? from where you currently are.

So you're celebrating the best company, with the best software, and the biggest player base, being shut out of a supposedly free market due to pressure and influence of politically connected competitors who have far inferior products and player rates?

As long as we have weasels like yourself who "celebrate" things like this, we will always be a nation in trouble.

888 also...and being on the same platform, the graphics are very good, imho...plus maybe i'm just fortunate, but i have had no geo-location issues with either of them or Ultimate...haven't gotten booted once...

Well now we know what we have to work with for the foreseeable future good bad or indifferent. We can either embrace it or hold out till stars makes changes with management. I'm not happy with it but I will play on the other sites we have available.

Nope. The response from support so far has been, sorry, here's a dollar for your troubles, but just this once, we can't be reimbursing every time it happens.

They claim its not their fault its the regulations. I've suggested just waiting til the end of a hand before disconnecting and so far its falling on deaf ears.

It seems like such a simple fix to wait till after a cash hand is over to disconnect someone so you aren't making them fold and lose money unfairly. Right now I have over 10 wifi networks I can sniff, but I have no control over that, so if 9 of them go away and they have to disconnect me to stay within the law I understand, just wait till the hand is over.

NJ online poker is a joke. The geo-location problems are ridiculous enough, but getting kicked off in the middle of a hand on WSOP is insane. It is my understanding that in the online casino, if you place a wager, you get to see the result of that wager before getting booted for geo-location. Why doesn't this apply to poker as well? How can I feel secure getting involved in a big pot if I have to worry about the software suddenly deciding I'm not in NJ anymore? And forget committing 5+ hours to a tournament. I haven't been able to stay connected for more than an hour. And sometimes once I'm booted it takes FOREVER to reconnect. Ugh.

Sad to say but also not surprising that I felt safer and more secure playing online before government regulation. I guess its back to Bovada until this nonsense gets sorted out. I had high hopes for NJ, but clearly we have a long way to go.

Yeah its pretty ridiculous they won't change that. Just another reason to play Borgata/Party who lets the hand finish first.

But people are signing up for online poker and ending up in a game of Russian Roulette. If the sites are claiming it's not their responsibility for losses and can just scapegoat the regulations, maybe we need to focus attention on campaigning to the people who make and enforce the regulations.

2 years from now no one will care if they can play on Poker Stars or not. Once federal legislation comes we will have a site just as, if not larger than Stars.

If you're printing money like it's 2005 who really cares if it is as good as Stars? The casino's that are behind legal online poker have much more money than Stars. It's in their best interest to make sure they put out a worthwhile product. Stars has a decade head start, of course they have a better product right now.
