Most people only take pictures of their unusually large stacks.

Last week's rungood...

$20/$40 - $1,000 --> $4,400

$5-$10 NL - $2,000 --> $4,200 (sry for ****ty quality... my hands were shaking after calling $1,200 on the river with a pair of 4s for a 4k pot....)

Let's hear that story!

why not...

Foxwoods 5-10 NL, new table... maybe 2 orbits since it just started. Most stacks around 2k (max buyin)

I'm in the cutoff with 4-4. Open raise to $35 (standard)
Button calls $35, folded around. Heads up to the flop.

Flop: 2-3-5 Rainbow (ding) (Pot $85)

I decide to C-bet for $60. Button raises to $325. At this point I'm putting him on a high ace or two paint cards. This player would've re-raised preflop with a mid-high pocket pair and would call to trap with a set. I'm confident that I have the best hand at the moment and would love to see an ace on the turn.

Turn: 2-3-5-T rainbow (Pot $735)

Not great but not terrible... I check. Button bets $380. I think about re-raising all-in, but in the end I decide to float. The only hand I'm concerned about here is A-T, but the betting pattern didn't really fit that. Let's see the river and hope for that ace...

River: 2-3-5-T-7 no flushes possible (Pot $1,495)

Total brick. I check. Button moves all-in for just under $1,200. I tank for about 3-4 minutes thinking about what's happened. If I stick with my original read, then the 7 is a safe card and pair of 4s is good. Time to think about the possible hands he could have....

Overpair: Unlikely, this player would have reraised me preflop with his pocket pairs. Even if he didn't, an overpair would be more than happy to check and show down since I can only call with a hand that beats him.

Straight: Almost impossible. I have two of the 4s he would need to make a straight, it was raised preflop and he's not that loose of a player, and he wouldn't be trying to blast me out of the pot on every street.

Set: Unlikely. Again, he's been trying to get me to fold since the flop. If there was a danger of a flush, I'd think a little more about this possibility, but with a rainbow board he should've felt safer about a set.

A-T / A-7: Very possible, until the river shove. He is last to act, and a shove is likely only called by a hand that beats him. My read is that any single-pair hand that he could have would be checked and shown down.

Bluff: After considering the possibilities, the hand that makes the most sense is a 3-barrel bluff with high cards. To me, a hand is a story that is told by the players in it. If the story has unexpected plot twists or in general doesn't make sense, I start to think that someone is up to something. The only story I saw since the flop is him telling me repeatedly that he doesn not want me in this hand.

After a few minutes of thoughtful reflection, I decide to go with my initial read and verbalize "call". Button sighs and flips over KJ for Kigh-Card King.

I take it down (approx $3900) with One Pair, Fours.

This is to date the biggest pot I've ever won and the biggest "hero call" I've ever made...

I've been playing 3-4 nights a week for the last 3 weeks, but I'm just getting back into it. I'm hoping to keep up that pace as long as the free rooms keep coming. Lots of money to be made at the 20-40 game...
