Wish he would’ve warned me about coinexchange.io because almost immediately after moving some coins there to buy some Alt it immediately went down. Fun times

Well if you are into math and computer sciency stuff, the actual technology is fascinating, and is pretty varied and incredibly interesting the different approaches and techniques that are being employed to solve problems and take advantage of uses cases. If that's not really your thing, then yeah it's basically just a more volatile stock market that offers nothing but BS market analysis populated by lots of really stupid people who think they are smart (just like poker).

If you are into that kind of thing tho, I personally think it's far more beautiful than poker because poker is just a game and is ultimately completely meaningless. Where crypto is revolutionary and potentially could change the very way we live our lives.

Completely agree with this comment.

Scammers and other shady opportunists affect people's lives and also damage the image of cryptocurrency and might even hold it back from achieving its potential.

Chances that tether and CME futures are connected? Wouldn't that be interesting

Right, but anything is exciting if you have action on it. I'm only saying I find the process of learning about it much less exciting than learning about poker. And I think a lot of people's excitement about it stems from the FREE MONEY/action element and not actually the science/process/data itself. YMMV though.

Well said and I agree. I'm not overly interested in the math/comp science behind it and find it somewhat inaccessible, but I certainly understand that others would be into that. When I have read about crypto and enjoyed it has been when it's fact-based/informative writing and not "BS market analysis"/agenda-filled crap that seems omnipresent on this subject.

The true test of whether crypto is genuinely interesting and exciting will be if there's a sustained period of a flat or bear market. I don't buy the fact that the vast majority of investors are actually interested in the ethos of decentralised currency and removing power and influence from government, as a force for good. I believe ~95%+ of people are purely interested in profit.

Why aren't a similarly large group of people mad keen on investing in pharmacutical/medical research companies, green energy or other world problem solving projects? Could it be perhaps that expected returns are <15% p.a.

Probably one of many reasons that Doug isn't focusing on tech at the moment and instead pointing out scams.

How fast can you buy/sell that LUXCoin? I watch only his channel for fun and to educate myself a little bit. As Doug said in the video that if the currency increase in value, that benefits him, since he has some of that coins. So after he posted this video, value of the coin should raise, as it happen. I think that there is value if u buy this coin immediately after the release of the video, wait some hours/days up to the time when the video reaches 100/150k views and the sell it. But what about if Doug write here or tell some people that he will make a video about certain coin, and they bought it and sell it after the video. Like idk how much % of the total volume of the last 24h could be bought/sell without any big negative swings.

Just wondering if there is a value if I see some new youtube video about relatively new coin and buy/sell it within some hours or 1-2 days of the release of the video?

$LUX is up ~30% since the his video was released.

a) Some, maybe all of this rise could/would have happened anyway.

b) Doug showed $LUX as 2% of his Crypto portfolio and has previously indicated that he holds ~20% of his total investments in the Crypto Asset Class (the rest is in property, bonds, stocks, or on cash deposit.)

Completely discounting a), even if the video had the effect of a shill, he has only benefited by 0.4% on his total investments, and this is assuming he could liquidate all of his $LUX at one price, which is probably unlikely.

Dunno if doug has that kind of pull...you can see what LUX does now that the video is out, but then you also have to try and figure out how much of what happens is because of Doug.

There are already tons of people who do exactly what you describe, just buy whatever coin is recommended by someone who has enough influence to effect the price, then sell. Enough people in fact that unless you are buying the second the news comes out, you already miss the window. In some cases, unless you have a bunch of bots you are already too slow.

Basically, anything you can think of that is an "easy" way to make a profit, there is a horde of other people who had the same thought and are doing it. So just like in poker, you need to be doing it better than them to make money.
