I've been in a place like that before actually - I couldn't believe it. It was years back.

What games you playing at the Wynn? Didn’t know they spread plo. Super juicy 10-20 uncapped game in San Diego if you’re ever out here.
The Wynn has a regular $1/$2/$5 with a cast of rotating regs I see when I go and then the assortment of completely randoms from out of town. They usually have 1 table going and on weekends get 2, during the summer there is a 5/5/10 w/ a rock also going. I don't really like playing at the Aria as much which is the other place in town that spreads PLO. I've been trying to focus on my relationship and my study vs playing poker sporadically in the past few months but have been getting a few online sessions in. This Galfond Challenge made me want to study a bit more w/ the solver but these type of games here don't really call for it so I won't get to test myself very much. When you've played 2 million hands of $1/$2+ online against really great players and have studied thousands of hours, these type of regs are incredibly easy to play against. Very unbalanced. The fun players range from terrible to very bad. The better ones might be a bit tighter and unpredictable but they are never going to outplay you. You can mix it up pre-flop, wait for big hands, and make a lot of money. I can't imagine how much time I put in working on my exploitative strategy specific to fun players. I used to break down all the types of fun player archetypes to figure out how each plays and what they might be thinking on all streets. I need to get better at the live psychological aspect of the game - alot of information to be given away from body language, outfits, actions, words, etc. against these types and most likely regs. If I wanted to become elite at live, I would heavily focus on these things but that isn't a priority now. My main goal is to get out of the house, enjoy my time out, play the great game, and make a bit of $$$. I always have a bunch of people talking to me at the table so I've really tried to enjoy the social aspect of the game as well. People love talking to me it seems because they know me from YouTube or Instagram or I've played with them before and I'm always chatting it up at the table. I think I bring a very fun attitude to the game.

Awesome stuff Joey. It’s nice to see you regaining your passion for the great game and playing again with motivation to study.

Live is lol most of the time and playing abc basically destroys the game most of the time and that can get a bit redundant.

Appreciate the recent content and second or 150th wind you’ve caught here!

Cheers

with your clout, you could easily be running your own private game (listen at 1:23:19): http://www.thinkingpoker.net/2015/09...40-chad-power/

not sure why you bother playing low stakes public games.

Yeah I agree, I know a lot of people and fun players love playing with me. I'm trying to stay focused on my study and work outside of poker because I think that is what will set me up for the rest of my life. I know I can always make money playing poker and it will always be there for me to play once I establish myself in other areas of life. I'll end up running my own private game at some point.

I mainly go play low stakes live now to get out of the house and it's close to home. I have fun playing any stakes.

I've tried to do both of these in the past but the amount of money I make from poker always sucks me back and I stop working as hard on other areas of focus. Don't want to make that same mistake again. I've found that the smarter I get outside poker, the better poker I actually play. I'm not as sharp on a technical level but my mindset and discipline was always the weakest part of my game to execute consistently which isn't the case anymore.

Loved the bencb pod. Schindler would be amazing! Also, I thought it was a bummer that you happened to have Sam Soverel on right after that controversy. All the talk was aboutnthat, and I had really been looking forward to hearing about his back story. It would be awesome if you could get him back on. Also would love to see ben86, lefort, dankness, jeans, isildroon back on. Thanks for all you do for the poker world Joey.

Awesome interview - thanks so much for your great work, Joey. I'm new to the scene but have some familliarity with esports. It's crazy that online poker isn't as popular and respected as it should be but you and bencb pretty much nail the reasons why. There is hope though.

I agree, we didn't get to cover much of his story which I think is much more interesting than the angleshooting discussion. All great guests to have on anytime.

Thanks - I agree but when you understand the power structures of the poker world, the poker media and the people who work in the industry, you understand why it isn't.

Yea, ditto, I heard Joey mentioning his texting with Veni at the end of the Bencb podcast, and am also very curious if that is going to happen or might happen.

If Joey gets Veni, that would be HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE as far as guest-getting goes. Like 10x-50x times more of a big deal than a statistically average guest by comparison, considering the public still doesn't know who tf this guy is, and he has just came in and crushed one of the all time legends and in a very highly publicized way. The only "get" that surpassed it in recent memory was maybe Cumicon, and even compared to that, it's probably close at this point.

If there seems to be any chance whatsoever of getting him, I would focus 100.0% of your time and energy on trying to get that guy on, Joey. Would be pretty sick.

BTW: If he says he would've liked to come on your podcast, but doesn't want to put himself up in public like that, then you should definitely offer to let him come on with just audio and no video (if the choices are between that vs not getting him at all, that is). That would still be 1,000x better than not having him on at all! Gotta get this guy on!
