Inzo!

Happy legally-binding-fake-birthday Micro!

It's great that Stars are effectively sponsoring the Aussie Millions this year. Hopefully a few of you guns that normally choose PCA over AM can play both this year. Stars are running way more satties to AM than when it was kinda in competition with PCA (and I can tell you guys that the ones that run at peak Oz times are way softer than the others; Australians are generally awful at poker). Melbourne is sunny and warm/hot in Jan/Feb, has awesome pubs/bars/restaurants and is crawling with hot chicks. Get your arses down here!

You should be rewarded for putting in the additional hours for the company. ;-)

Congrats Darin - I honestly didn't know you were still grinding.

Happy Birthday Micro - the good thing about hitting middle age is that birthdays and Xmases come faster...

Feels v strange not playing poker for a living any more - I used to feel a real need to post here, I suspect, just for the sake of human contact - now I just take pleasure in old friends

Buena suerte a todos por Navidad

didn't know you had retired from playing. It's good to know, I will now call off the Dragon City addiction intervention I had planned.

I'm now the editor of pokerfuse PRO - Dragon City is Harry using my Facebook I set him up with his own account, but he refuses to start the game from scratch. Have a great Xmas Steve.

Could use some more job type advice from you guys.

I'm at the start of month 3 of a 6 month contract (second 6 month contract). It's been a contract position because someone has been on long term illness and they have to hold his position for him for 2 years. That 2 years is almost up. It was pretty much guaranteed I would just move into a full time position when this happened.

However, a new CAO came in, restructured and left. The restructuring has resulted in my position disappearing. I'm a building inspector and currently there are 4 of us, all equal positions. All of them are more experienced than me (i'm 8 months in). The restructuring will result in there being a Chief Building Official(CBO)/Inspector position plus three inspectors. This CBO position would be a supervisory position. If one of the current inspectors doesn't get the position then I'm out. One of them doesn't have the qualifications, the other two say they are not going to apply for it.

I've made my boss aware that I have a certain timeline that I have to start looking for new jobs. I told him January. However, another potential opportunity has arisen that would require me to apply in the next couple days.

Would it be appropriate if I asked him to review my updated resume?

Normally I would think this would be fine given the circumstances, however there are a couple things making me hesitant. One, I would be applying for a job that would have me leave half way through the contract. Two, I know my boss really is not happy that I could potentially be leaving. Although I'm not that experienced, I think they really like what they have seen, especially with my education and "potential" and would like to keep me in the organization. My boss also suggested I take the exam that would qualify me legally for the CBO position (although I don't see how that would work being only 8 months in the field and the position involving supervision of the guys that have been training me.)

How much can you risk the likely amount of time it would take if they hang you out to dry? Can you weather this kind of storm? You have given plenty of notice and indications you might leave, way more than most.

That said, update your resume with what you feel is appropriate and interview with the new place. They have you on contract, literally no long term obligation to you... don't they realize it is a two way street?

Are you asking if I can afford an amount of time not working? If yes, the answer is yes. I have about 6 months of living expenses saved up precisely because I'm on contract. Plus I would get employment insurance and poker income. I could probably not work for year and be alright. But I obviously like to avoid that.

I'm going to update my resume for sure, I'm just asking if it would be in bad taste to ask my current employer for feedback on it.
